That’s not a secret Chinese smartphones cost less, but on the other hand, that is also no hugger-mugger Chinese manufacturers do their best to make some competition to top brands. Thus as usually happens, we get high-end devices at a lower price tag. This story is common for almost all Chinese smartphone makers, and Cubot is no exception. This manufacturer is known for its eye-catching smartphones and tablets that sport features even top brand handsets lack. As of now, we deiced to get our hands on a quite awesome phablet with Cubot branding that is ready to stand all the fights against top branded similar handsets. The device is dubbed the Cubot Max.
Honestly, we like this brand and pay attention to every device it launches. So we have already managed to get acquainted with some models came to our way earlier. Among those handsets the most outstanding ones are the Cubot Rainbow, the Cubot Cheetahphone, the Cubot X10, and the Cubot S550. Each of these handsets can stand out due a unique feature, thus this manufacturer likes to add at least one special feature to its handsets. The Cubot Max is no exception, and as the name says, we are dealing with a handset sporting great features at the top level. To explore what features the ‘Max’ naming refers to let dig deeper.
Cubot Max Design
The Cubot Max is a big smartphone, literally. This means everything in this handset should be at max size. And it is. First, the handset is designed for users with large hands, but if you are not so and you want to own a phablet you have to use your both hands to interact with it. To solve this problem Cubot has curved the edges and corners, so when handling you can access larger area of the screen. Not to slide off your hands, the phablet has a sketchy back cover. So when looking or handling the Cubot Max many can think they are dealing with an impressionist work. This can be a selling feature, but on the other hand many users can avoid such covers, as the most customers prefer standard smooth back covers. Anyway, we should write down that designers have worked much and tried to bring something new and something elegant to the market.
As for the location of different buttons and slots, above the screen we can find a dynamic hole, a front camera and a notification led. While the touchable three standard buttons are placed below the screen. The back carries a primary camera with flash, the Cubot branding and some info about the model on the bottom of it. The power button and the volume rocker are located on the right side, and the first SIM card slot I above it. The second SIM card slot is placed on the opposite side. The micro SD card slot located below it. The bottom carries only the dynamic, while the top of the Cubot Max carries a 3.5mm audio jack for earphones and a mini HDMI port for charging or data transfer. The last is a bit strange, because I don’t remember when I saw these two holes on the same side for the last time. But it doesn’t mean it’s uncomfortable.
As for dimensions, it comes at 164.5mm×83.5mm×8.95mm, thus we are dealing with a phablet at the average thickness. I mean this is not a bulky phone, but we can’t say it has a slim body. The phone is a bit heavy – it weighs 203 grams. At the end, the Cubot Max is available in three colors – black, silver and gold.
Cubot Max Display
When visiting the official page of the Cubot Max we understand the ‘Max’ stands for display (and the battery as well). Commonly, the display is the key feature of this handset. The Cubot Max is equipped with a 6-inch screen at a resolution of 1280×720 pixels and 245 PPI. The pixel density is quite respectable for such a wide display, agree?
As the manufacturer say, large screen-handsets are very comfortable to watch movies or TV shows, because video content is more attractive on larger displays (this is another reason why we opt to buying wide screen TVs and smartphones).
Moreover, wide screens are more comfortable when playing games, especially it refers to games with heavy graphics. So you can be sure the Cubot Max will provide the best gaming experience for you.
Another reason why large screens are more acceptable is their ability to read books. That’s not a secret letters on big screens are seen better, therefore they won’t hurt your eyes.
When I have had a phablet, many were asking me whether it’s uncomfortable to handle. But as I was working too much and my job was related to internet, I have to own such a handset. Though sometimes I didn’t know where to put it, it still remained a very helpful assistant for me. As for the Cubot Max, it is easier and more effective to work on larger screen than on standard 4.7-inch screens.
Finally, wide screens are very comfortable for navigation when driving.
Cubot Max Features
You know better than me wide screens need larger batteries. The Cubot Max sports a 4100 mAh battery, which can provide 7-10 hours of video playing or up to 11 hours of actual test, thus you can surf in the net, call, text, play or something else, and the battery will keep charged.
But large screens also require powerful hardware, and the Cubot Max seems to come fully equipped. It is powered with a MT6753A Cortex-A53 octa-core processor paired with a Mali-T720 GPU, 3GB of RAM and 32GB of ROM that can be expanded via microSD card slot up to 128GB. As you guess this features set is able to provide high class performance when it comes not only to opening applications, but also to shooting or playback ultra-high-definition videos.
The handset is also packed with two cameras – a 5MP camera on the front, and a 13MP camera on the back. The back camera features autofocus, 4P lens, f/2.0 aperture and 0.5Ax2 LED flashlight meaning it will take great photos even in dark or low light conditions.
As you can guess the Cubot Max is great in terms of connectivity, as it supports GSM, 3G, 4G, GPS, WiFi, and Bluetooth 4.0.
Android 6.0 is on the board, so you get access to millions of apps and games via Play Store.
Cubot Max Availability
The Cubot Max phablet is not overpriced and it is available for only $130, thus we are dealing with a high-end phablet with astonishing features like a large screen and large battery, but it is sold only for a penny.
- Large HD screen
- Large Capacitive Battery
- Octa-core processor
- 3GB RAM
Not that much to say about shortcomings of this handset as the manufacturer has done its best to pack the Cubot Max with the best specs. And thanks to them this phablet is quietly capable of making a real competition to many devices from the same niche.
