In this article, we are going to compare three popular mobile chips by Qualcomm – namely Snapdragon 625, Snapdragon 650 and Snapdragon 430. We would like to first have a look at their specifications and then juxtapose their results from various benchmarks, and conclude with surface overheating tests. For this purpose, we use the results we recorded with Lenovo P2, Sony Xperia X and Lenovo K6 respectively.

Snapdragon 625, found in Lenovo P2, is a 64-bit Qualcomm chip manufactured through a 14nm technological process. It features eight Cortex-A53 cores running with a frequency of up to 2GHz. The chip also includes an X9 modem, providing Cat. 7 LTE connectivity or in other words download speed of up to 300Mbps and up to 150Mbps upload speed. Furthermore, Snapdragon 625 also supports Wi-Fi 802.11ac, NFC, the Quick Charge 3.0 technology for fast charging, Full HD screens, up to 24MP cameras and 4K video recording. In addition, the Adreno 506 GPU takes care of the graphics performance.
Snapdragon 650, found in Sony Xperia X, is a 64-bit processor manufactured through a 28 technological process. The chip features six cores – the first four are the more economical Cortex-A53, whereas the other two are the more powerful Cortex A-72, ticking at up to 1.8 GHz. It boasts the support of up to Quad HD displays, 21MP cameras and 4K video recording and playback. Additionally, it offers the Qualcomm Quick Charge 3.0 technology that ensures quick battery charging. Also supported are Wi-Fi 802.11n/ac, Bluetooth Smart 4.1, NFC, and LTE Cat 7 connectivity, which brings up to 300 Mbps download and up to 100 Mbps upload speeds. The GPU, in this case, is Adreno 510.
The last Qualcomm representative – Snapdragon 430 is again a 64-bit mobile processor manufactured through a 28nm technological process. It can be found in Lenovo K6. The chip has eight Cortex-A53 cores whose clock speed reaches up to 1.4GHz. Its specs include Full HD display support, up to 21MP camera sensors with up to Full HD video capturing (30fps), Quick Charge 3.0 technology for faster recharging ( 38% more effective than Quick Charge 2.0), Wi-Fi 802.11ac, Bluetooth 4.1, NFC and LTE Cat 4 with download speeds of up to 150Mbps. Here, the present GPU is Adreno 505.
We have conducted several benchmarks putting to the test both computing and graphics power of the three mobile chips. You can check the results displayed in the table below

Apart from performance, we also tested the three chips for potential overheating issues after several hours of extended 3D gaming with the help of the Epic Citadel app. Immediately after this, we measured the temperatures in three sections of the smartphone’s back taking into account only the highest values. In all three cases, the temperature didn’t reach particularly worrying values but in Sony Xperia X the results were slightly higher that those of the other two smartphones. The photos below display the registered temperatures in the three sections of each smartphone’s back.
