2019 Volkswagen Touareg Review : International Launch

German brand’s new SUV flagship brings more luxury but can still tame the Sahara

The third-generation Volkswagen Touareg has taken a dramatic step upmarket and, as the German brand’s new SUV range-topper, aims directly at the BMW X5 and Mercedes-Benz GLE. As such, when it arrives in Australia in May 2019, the bigger and more luxurious new five-seat large SUV will be priced from about $80,000 in 190kW First Edition guise, followed by full-time 170kW and 210kW models later in the year. Pricing should eventually open from around $70,000 for the V6 diesel range.

Razer Mamba Wireless (2018) review: It nails the fundamentals

So long, artsy display stand. The 2018 Mamba Wireless ditches the gimmicks and improves the battery life, sensor, and weight.

Razer Mamba Wireless (2018)

It’s been either a few years or a few months since we looked at Razer’s Mamba mouse. Back in 2015 I reviewed the Mamba Wireless and Mamba Tournament Edition, which I’d say was our last real look at this design—but in April we did examine Razer’s futuristic Hyperflux mousepad, which used an adapted Mamba as its input.

Dolby Dimension review: Excellent sound, exorbitant price

Dolby has been delivering 3D sound to people’s living rooms through other companies’ Atmos-equippedsoundbars and systems for years. So it’s no surprise the company is harnessing some of that expertise for its first piece of consumer hardware. Its first product is aimed at two very popular activities: binge watching and listening to music. The Dolby Dimension headphones pack in a lot of features and tech to power your marathon Netflix sessions, but at $599, they’re a serious investment.

HP Spectre Folio review: This leather PC means business

Who needs a leather computer? When HP announced the Spectre Folio, the first notebook with a completely leather case, it seemed like a vain attempt at doing something different. But after spending a week with it, the Folio turned out to be much more than a gimmick. With its leather covering and a unique convertible hinge, the Spectre Folio is a step towards a wild new world of computer designs, one where everyone stops trying to recreate the premium unibody style that Apple pioneered.

Pioneer AVH-Z9190BT Head Unit Review: An overpriced 7-inch TV for your car

The Pioneer AVH-Z9190BT presents itself as a premium car audio head unit with plenty of connectivity options at a time when many cars in the Indian market already come with most of them—at least the stuff everyone uses every day: Bluetooth, USB, and line-in. What then, does the Pioneer AVH-Z9190BT offer extra? And does it justify its incredibly hefty price tag of Rs 50,050? Let’s explore.

Samsung Galaxy A9: A closer look at the world’s first quad camera smartphone

Samsung released the Galaxy A9 some time ago to much pomp and aplomb, bragging about the world’s first smartphone with four cameras. The unit we got has a gorgeous dual-tone blue-green finish which Samsung calls Lemonade Blue. The finish is definitely very unique and is bound to please the eyes of many around, but what is going to really catch people’s eye is the 4-camera setup on the back. First, it was dual cameras and then Huawei upped the ante with its three-camera setup on the Huawei P20 Pro.

Honor 8C First Impressions: Looks good from the outside, predictable from the inside

Countering Xiaomi’s onslaught of devices in the budget and mid-range segment, Honor, which claims to be India’s fastest growing is also on a blitzkrieg. Just a month after launching the Honor 8X, Huawei’s sub-brand will be launching the Honor 8C on November 29. It will be an Amazon exclusive device and Honor hopes the new Honor 8C will keep the momentum going for the brand and even topple the newly-launched Xiaomi Redmi Note 6 Pro.

Skullcandy Crusher 360 review

When we reviewed the Skullcandy Venue, we were impressed with the headphone’s relatively balanced sound – Skullcandy, alongside Beats by Dre, has always been known for its over-the-top bass.

If you were worried that was part of a larger trend away from the brand’s bass-heavy sound signature, however, don’t be – Skullcandy still offers some of the hardest-hitting bass, especially with their flagship Crusher 360 headphone.

Realme U1 Review

Ever since Realme broke up with Oppo, the company has been on a launch spree, releasing devices across the entry level and mid-range price segments. Their main USP so far has been the use of a unique design language for a phone that offered fairly standard feature set. Now, we have the Realme U1, the company’s budget device with a design similar to what we’ve seen on Honor phones, but this is the first smartphone with a Helio P70 processor.

Roku TV Wireless Speakers review

First things first: If you don’t own a Roku TV — a Roku-powered model from the likes of TCL, Insignia or Sharp — don’t even consider buying the Roku TV Wireless Speakers. They simply won’t work. At all. Even if you have a Roku streamer.

Plenty of people do own a Roku TV, however. The smart TV platform is growing its market share every year — three of the top five best-selling TVs on Amazon are TCL Rokus, for example.

Synology DiskStation DS1618+ review

While everyday consumers have loads of affordable NAS options, higher end home users or small businesses have a much more restricted market. But for those who work with photos or video, having large amounts of fast storage is very important.

And that’s where the six bay Synology DS1618+ plus fits in. It’s affordable enough for pro home users, but also has grunty hardware and upgrade options that will appeal to business users.

Audio Pro A10 review

It’s the first day of the new term. You’ve changed so much over the holidays; you’re a completely different person and you now wear a beret. But your geography teacher slaps the hat from your head and calls you Frank Spencer. Now everyone’s shouting ‘Ooh Betty’ at you in the corridors and the ‘new you’ has been an absolute disaster.

Thankfully, some are cool enough to make the change and still garner respect, as Audio Pro has done with its A10 wireless speaker.

Huawei Band 3 Pro review

Huawei’s latest fitness tracker is the Huawei Band 3 Pro. The new wearable packs built-in GPS, a long-lasting battery, and a similar design to its predecessor — the Band 2 Pro. But this time around, there’s an AMOLED color touchscreen display and, unlike the Band 2 Pro, it’s also available for purchase in the U.S.

Galaxy S10 specs, price and release date rumors: 5G? 3 models? 6 cameras?

Technically, we don’t know anything about the Galaxy S10, the next flagship Galaxy phone we expect Samsung to announce. Samsung hasn’t made the S10 official, unlike the upcoming foldable phone that it flashed on stage in November. But after nine years of Galaxy S phones fueling Samsung’s rise to the top, the Korean tech giant would be crazy to stop before its 10th anniversary Galaxy S.

Onkyo TX-NR585 review

Deciding which AV receiver to buy is about choosing one set of features over another. Among units I’ve tested in the $400 range, this Onkyo is the one to choose for the sole reason that it has the best features.

Hang on, shouldn’t it be about sound quality first? Sure, but all three midrange Dolby Atmos receivers I’ve tested recently — Sony’s STR-DN1080Denon’s AVR740H and this Onkyo TX-NR585 — sound very similar, and very good. Among the three I’d give the Denon and Onkyo a hair above the Sony for sound quality, but the difference is far from dramatic.

2019 Cadillac CT6 review

Well, this is awkward.

Not 24 hours after General Motors announces its death, I’m here to tell you about the Cadillac CT6 sedan, a car that’s been ever so slightly refreshed for the 2019 model year. It’s got a new turbocharged engine, styling tweaks and a number of technology updates that are sure to make it more appealing than before — just in time for it to be killed off next June.

BenQ EX3203R Review

The BenQ EX3203R is the latest monitor that claims to tackle gaming, movies and entertainment with an added dose of HDR – and that headline-grabbing feature is joined by a curved design and AMD FreeSync.

It talks the talk, then, but does it live up to those claims in a market that’s full of manufacturers claiming to offer the same – and is it worth its £469/$605 price tag.

2019 Land Rover Discovery Sport Review

The 2019 Land Rover Range Rover Sport packs a lot into its mid-size crossover SUV frame—and not just in the name badge. It’s outfitted with traction systems and turbocharged engines that allow it to straddle the divide between cars and utility vehicles. It does it all with a price below $40,000 and with a “+2” third-row seat that pumps-fakes for the real seven-seaters in the Land Rover lineup.

We think it’s a 6.4 out of 10, though we’d probably boost that rating if we had crash-test  data at our disposal.

Epson EH-TW7400 review

Epson may have declared its latest projector a 4K supporter with its ‘PRO-UHD’ labelling, but on the spectrum between ‘definitely 4K’ and ‘definitely not 4K’, the EH-TW7400 is actually somewhere in the middle.

It can play 4K (and HDR) material, and features its own ‘4K-enhancement’ technology, which promises to convey the superior resolution. But typically of 4K-supporting projectors at this price, it only has 1920 x 1080 (Full HD) resolution chip architecture, as opposed to the native 4K silicon found in pricier models such as the £5000/$6450 Sony VPL-VW270ES.

2019 Land Rover Range Rover Velar Review

Don’t believe in evolution? Here’s our proof du jour: the 2019 Land Rover Range Rover Velar SUV. For most of the last century, SUVs were brutes with buckboard rides, while sedans and coupes had the aching rooflines and the fit-for-royalty cockpits.

The 2019 Range Rover Velar has both, and with 9.9 inches of ground clearance and a Land Rover badge, it’ll get somewhere off-road. How far depends on your tenacity more than its, we’d bet.

Rivian has a bold EV plan that Tesla could learn from

You might not know the name Rivian right now, but if the EV startup has its way you’ll be saying it alongside Tesla in just a few years time. Having flown generally under the radar since setting up shop in 2009, the automaker brought not one but two cars to the LA Auto Show 2018 this week, and both have the potential to seriously shake up not only the electrification space, but the car industry in general.

First, there’s the Rivian R1T. Rather than following in the footsteps of Audi, Mercedes-Benz, and others, and making an electric SUV, Rivian has turned to a less obvious vehicle: the pickup truck.

Asus Chromebook C423NA review: A cheap, big laptop with some obvious caveats

We’ve said before here at Android Police that Asus makes some of the best Chromebooks on the market, but bumps in the road are inevitable. Take the last one we reviewed, the C223NA. Corbin came away under-impressed, so we hoped that Asus’ next offering would hearken back to what made us fall in love in with the Flip C302. Unfortunately, what I have here, the C423, does not accomplish that.

From an underwhelming CPU to a meh display, my experience with the C423 I received was a mediocre one, which is about what one might expect from a $270 Chromebook. But even though I didn’t like it at first, it grew on me the more I used it.

7 Things to Know About the iPhone X iOS 12.1 Update

The iPhone X iOS 12.1 update is out of beta and it brings new features, fixes, patches, and problems to the former flagship.

iOS 12.1 is much bigger than the previous versions of iOS 12 (iOS 12.0.1) and Apple’s first milestone upgrade delivers new emoji characters, Group FaceTime calls, security enhancements, and crucial bug fixes for some glaring iOS 12 problems.

Most iPhone X users should install iOS 12.1 today or in the near future, but some of you might want to wait a few days or, in some cases, longer.
