Zenbre SoundBank Z8 Plus Review

Have you ever heard of Zenbre? No, I hadn’t either, but it seems they provide a number of audio-based products via their site or Amazon. The SoundBank Z8 Plus is a direct successor to the Z4 speaker, and boasts a few neat tricks. For a start, it has an IPX6 water resistance rating, dual 10W speakers, a large 6600 mAh battery, as well as ample connectivity options. Just how well does it play audio though? Let’s take a closer look.

2019 Kia Sportage Review

The 2019 Kia Sportage may lack some of the spunky visual appeal of the related Kia Soul hatchback, but it’s just as well. It sells and performs well based on its crossover-SUV credentials, not on an on-point shape.

The Sportage does more than the Soul with its available turbo-4 drivetrain, too—and it offers all-wheel drive to boot.

We give it a 6.5 out of 10 on our scale.

Apple Mac Mini (2018) buying guide

After more than four years of neglect, Apple has finally refreshed the Mac Mini, giving it one of the biggest performance bumps the line has seen to date. This year’s Mac Mini tops out with a six-core Intel 8th-gen processor, enhanced security thanks to the Apple T2 chipset, and upgradeable memory. Despite coming only in the same space grey hue as the prosumer-targeted iMac Pro, the 2018 Mac Mini retains its consumer branding — there’s no “Pro” in the name, contrary to early rumors.

2019 Kia Soul Review

The 2019 Kia Soul cruises into the latest model year with all its charm intact, with its sole glaring fault still on the order sheet.

The 2019 Soul, Soul Plus, and Soul Exclaim continue to dole out impeccably youthful style, decent economy-car bona fides, and excellent interior space, not to mention a strong warranty.

What the Soul still doesn’t offer is automatic emergency braking on any model other than the mid-range, middling-aspiration Soul Plus.

Audio Technica ATH-M50xBT hands-on review

Upon release in 2007, Audio-Technica didn’t expect its original ATH-M50 headphones to be used outside of the studio; but over the next decade they took on an almost cult-like following and became one of the firm’s best-selling headphones, despite the company making it relatively hard for normal people to buy them. These were pro-level cans, and you had to visit dedicated stores at first just to pick up a pair. The unique sound signature was the main draw, followed by music fans seeing the distinctly designed headphones being worn by their favorite artists.

Apple MacBook Air (2018) vs. Dell XPS 13

Dell made big-screened laptops in compact packages fashionable with the XPS 13, and now Apple is joining the trend with its redesigned MacBook Air this year. Apple slimmed down the 2018 MacBook Air’s bezels, giving it a more compact footprint to compete against the XPS, while also improving on the notebook’s performance with an upgraded 8th-gen Intel processors.

2019 Jeep Cherokee Review

The 2019 Jeep Cherokee gets more conventional styling this year and adds a powerful turbo-4 engine. It retains its off-road prowess, especially in the Trailhawk model, and it’s comfortable on pavement too. Interior room is an issue even though interior materials are not. Crash-test results are less than stellar, though Jeep makes plenty of active safety features available.

In addition to Trailhawk, Jeep offers the Cherokee in Latitude, Latitude Plus, Limited, and Overland trims. We rate it a 6.2 out of 10.

Apple iPad Pro 11 vs iPad Pro 10.5: Should you upgrade?

Apple announced the iPad Pro 11-inch in October, offering a refreshed design and a larger display within a similar-size footprint to the older 10.5-inch iPad Pro model.

The new 11-inch iPad Pro will be offered in addition to the 10.5-inch iPad Pro model rather than replace it, meaning those after one of Apple’s high-end tablets have a decision to make.

Google Chromecast (2018) review

Did you know there’s a new Chromecast in town? There’s little reason why you should: Google didn’t even mention it at its October launch event.

Maybe it’s because the 2018 version of the video-streaming dongle is very similar to its 2015 predecessor. Slightly faster processing, support for 60fps and a new matte finish are pretty much the extent of it – at least until an update later in the year brings support for multi-room music.

2019 Jeep Wrangler Review

The 2019 Jeep Wrangler is refreshingly honest. Its throwback underpinnings may belie the newly updated and tech-heavy interior, but the Wrangler’s rugged looks cut checks its sturdy body will cash.

We give the Wrangler a 5.2 overall because capability requires compromise. It’s hugely impressive off-road, but its price and fuel economy sink the overall average.

Samsung Galaxy Tab A 10.5-inch Review

The Samsung Galaxy Tab A has a 10.5-inch display and works well for content consumption like movies and gaming. it also boasts of calling capabilities and thankfully doesn’t have a earpiece. It has decent battery life but we wish the display had better viewing angles. It faces competition from the iPad 32GB Wi-Fi only variant.

2019 Jeep Compass Review

The 2019 Jeep Compass splits hairs to find its narrow niche among compact crossover SUVs. Bigger than a Renegade but smaller than a Cherokee, the Compass steers toward comfort and usability than scrambling up a mountainside.

Our rating of 5.0 reflects the good features and relatively good fuel economy of the 2019 Compass. We like its looks, but we’d like it even more if every version came with active safety features that are becoming commonplace.

Just when we thought that the MacBook Air had reached the end of its disruptive life, Apple has announced a new model, with a 2018 twist.

It feels like a long time since we last had a new MacBook Air to be excited about and it is. So rather than tell you what’s different, let’s start with what’s the same.

2019 Jeep Grand Cherokee Review

The 2019 Jeep Grand Cherokee is an automotive moment in time: a family hauler that can crawl through a blizzard, blitz a racetrack, tow a boat—or all three.

It’s an excellent choice for a family hauler, performance SUV, off-road champ, or anything in the middle.

Our overall score of 6.8 is weighted heavily toward the Jeep’s performance, style, and comfort, with huge divots for fuel economy and safety.

Apple iPad Pro 11 vs Apple iPad Pro 12.9 (2018): Which should you buy?

Featuring a lovely new design, how do the two new iPad Pros compare to each other in terms of specifications and which should you buy? Here is how the iPad Pro 11-inch and iPad Pro 12.9-inch are similar and how they differ.

2019 Subaru Crosstrek Review

Think of the 2019 Subaru Crosstrek as a pair of trail running shoes. This compact crossover SUV ties rugged styling with as much capability as most explorers are likely to need.

Following a redesign last year, the 2019 Crosstrek gets more widely available advanced safety tech such as automatic braking and adaptive cruise control, plus some minor tech upgrades inside.

The 2019 Crosstrek rates 5.7 out of 10 on our scale on account of its good value, refined feel, and great safety scores. Its biggest demerit is its lack of passing power, although good low-speed tuning makes it feel sprightly around town.

Lenovo Smart Display 10″ Review

Announced way back in January 2018, the Lenovo Smart Display 10” was the first Google Assistant-powered smart display. Before Lenovo could release the product, the Google Home Hub came along and grabbed a lot of the attention.

Fortunately, rather than being a sub-Google product, the Lenovo Smart Display 10” gives you the same features as in the Home Hub, but adds a larger screen, portrait mode and a webcam. It’s available with an 8-inch or a 10-inch screen, and I’ve got the larger model on review here.

2019 Subaru Outback Review

The 2019 Subaru Outback splits the difference between passenger car and crossover SUV and it does so exceptionally well. With the Outback, Subaru has created a vehicle that meets the needs of most drivers while neglecting few. Thought the 2019 Outback is begging to sprout some gray hairs, it still rates highly in our eyes—and additional standard safety gear added for the 2019 model year makes it an even more appealing pick.

Overall, we rate the 2019 Outback at 6.7 out of 10 points on its confident ability to traverse any terrain in comfort. That it’s a good value only adds to its appeal.

New Mac Mini 2018: Everything you need to know about the new Mac mini

After being neglected for four years, Apple’s Mac mini range has finally seen a refresh with the introduction of the new Mac mini 2018.

For those unfamiliar with the Mac mini, it’s a compact computer aimed at macOS users who want to get their hands on a compact Apple desktop computer, but without all the added pricey peripherals you’d find with an iMac.

2019 Ford Ranger Raptor review

The creation of a desert racing-inspired performance version of the T6 Ranger in 2018 was a logical development, given that Ford first built a similar derivative of the F-150 for the US market in 2010.

The Americans called it the Raptor, and, given Steven Spielberg’s steroid-fed interpretation of this fearsome predator in Jurassic Park, it certainly lived up to the name, with its tougher frame, pumped-out mudguards, supple long-travel suspension and the bite of some big petrol V8s (and now a 335kW twin-turbo 3.5 litre V6 with 10-speed auto).

The iPad Pro USB-C port has one big problem

There are a lot of interesting aspects to the new iPad Pro, but one of the most interesting is perhaps Apple’s decision to go for USB-C connectivity. With the new iPad Pro, Apple is ditching its familiar (and proprietary) Lightning port and going with USB-C instead, which is certainly much more standard across a wider variety of devices. For all of the benefits of this new USB-C port, there is one missing piece of functionality that might disappoint some users.

iPad Pro (2018) vs iPad Pro (2017): What’s new?

iPad Pro 2018 vs iPad Pro 2017: What’s new with Apple’s latest tablet?

A month after Apple unveiled the iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max and iPhone XR, the Cupertino-based company is back with another event. This time taking place in Brooklyn, the keynote saw the arrival of new iPad Pros and a new MacBook Air.

Apple last updated its iPads Pros in June 2017, giving them 120Hz displays and slicker designs. That’s a long time ago in tech so it’s nice to see new iPad Pros appear ahead of the Christmas rush.

Wear OS is headed down the road of irrelevance

Days before its big Pixel event, Google released its latest version of its wearable spin on Android. Not Android Wear, of course, but Wear OS, this time version 2.0. The release was met with generally positive response, praising the more streamlined UI that finally makes it more convenient to use navigate through the smartwatch. It didn’t take long, however, for the initial excitement over Wear OS 2.0 to die down, for one reason or another. It is, unfortunately, indicative of the problem that threatens to ultimately make Android smartwatches obsolete and irrelevant.

2019 Mitsubishi Outlander LS review

Yes, it’s boring, and yes, it doesn’t get your pulse racing, but the Outlander is an excellent and affordable option in this segment. We reckon the LS grade is the pick of the bunch too.

Despite the ‘sometimes boring’ barbs that get sent its way, the 2019 Mitsubishi Outlander LS keeps punching well above its perceived weight in the medium-SUV segment. Spend any time behind the wheel of one, and the reasons for its popularity become pretty clear too.

iPad Pro (2018) vs iPad: Should you go Pro?

iPad Pro (2018) vs iPad: Comparing Apple’s tablets

Apple has just unveiled its new iPad Pro tablets, finally updating the devices that haven’t been touched since June 2017. These new versions of the iPad Pro will be sold alongside the iPad which remains Apple’s entry-level tablet.

The Apple iPad’s price starts at £319, whereas the iPad Pro 2018 costs £769 for the 11-inch model and £969 for the 12.9-inch model. That’s a big price difference – but what exactly do you get for your money?
