Toyota GT86 (2017) review: Coupe a load of that

It’s -15C. Yep, minus fifteen degrees centigrade. And we’re stood staring at the brand new Toyota GT86 – which positively radiates its warm blood red coat of paint against the snowy Finnish backdrop – wondering what on earth could possibly go wrong when drifting a rear-wheel drive car around an ice and snow track. Nothing, right? Right?

As it turns out, with a helping hand of expert supervision, this proposed mad spectacle turns into a theme park fun-ride and shows off just what a degree of control the GT86 offers in such unequivocally tricky conditions. A bit of snow might shut down the rail network, but it’s not going to shut us down.

The GT86 is far from the first rear-wheel car we’ve ever driven, of course, having sampled both the Mazda MX-5 and Fiat 124 Spider(which is built on the same chassis). These alternatives might seem like slightly alien competitors, given they’re soft-tops, but they’re similar-sized and similar-priced.

Meizu Pro 6 Plus preview: The true flagship alternative from China

You often hear the age-old rhetoric that China is taking over the world, and nowhere is that more clear than in the smartphone market. Companies like Huawei, Oppo and Vivo are now in the top five global smartphone vendors.

One company you may not be aware of is Meizu. Like Xiaomi – another popular Chinese smartphone maker – it’s known for producing great quality hardware at relatively affordable prices.

The Meizu Pro 6 Plus is the company’s biggest and best phone, and still costs considerably less than an iPhone 7 Plus, Pixel XL or Galaxy S7 Edge. But, is it a great phone? We’ve gone hands on with it to see just how good this flagship challenger is.

Rega Brio review

We’ve waited six long years for the successor to one of our favourite budget amplifiers – the Award-winning Brio-R – and Rega has come back with a redesigned Brio that is every bit as exciting as its predecessor. And more.

Now in its sixth generation (the original Brio first launched in 1991), the new Brio feels both familiar and completely new.

It’s been redesigned, but in a way that harks back to the retro style of the older Brios. It remains an analogue-only amplifier, but it now, finally, has a headphone socket. And, crucially, it sounds terrific.

2015 – 2017 Yamaha FZ6R Review

Everybody that rides gets a first bike, yet not every rider can find something in the entry-level market that suits their needs. Some folks have no interest in progressing through the higher displacements, and are looking for more of an all-in-one package that can serve as a trainer with room to grow into a commuter or funtime weekend bike.Yamaha fills this particular niche with its FZ6 R in an effort to grab a slice of that pie while engendering some brand loyalty just in case the customer does decide to upgrade one day. It’s a tricky thing to balance user friendliness and enough performance to prevent boredom, but that’s exactly what the Tuning Fork Company tries to do here. Let’s dive in and see what the factory has in store for us.

Design

Yamaha FZ6R

Less naked than the similarly priced FZ-07 with less performance than the similarly sized YZF -R6, the FZ6R finds its place in the balance. The front end is sporty enough with a look not unlike the YZF-R6 supersport with a sharp entry and cyclops headlight leading the way. A vented engine cowling re-integrates cooling air with the slipstream for reduced turbulence and drag, and it comes slightly cut away to give a glimpse of the engine. Not really naked, just showing a bit of ankle below the hem is all.

Nintendo Switch vs PS4 vs Xbox One: Which should you choose?

It’s not long to go until the new Nintendo console is released and the Japanese gaming giant starts to prove once again that it has what it takes in the field.

The Nintendo Switch is a different kind of machine to the Wii U, being able to play at home on a TV and out and about in handheld mode. It is also different to other currently available options – most notably the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.

But because it’s roughly the same price, it will ultimately come down to a straight choice between them if you’ve got a few hundred quid spare.

That’s why we look at the three major games consoles to see which would best suit you.

Huawei P10 vs Huawei P9: What’s the rumoured difference?

Huawei is fast becoming a big name in the smartphone world, producing well-built and well-specced devices for less than its competitors. The recent Mate 9 was a good device, meaning expectations are high for the company’s next P flagship.

Here is how the Huawei P10 currently compares to its predecessor – the P9 – based on the rumours.

Skullcandy Hesh 2 Wireless review

Those who are after stylish headphones and who have plenty to spend might end up with a pair of Beats Solo 2 Wireless. But not everyone has £200/$300 lying about, even those who fork out £500/$750 a year or more for their phone contract.

The Skullcandy Hesh 2 Wireless are one of the leading budget alternatives. Selling for as little as £50/$75 they’re very cheap for a pair of full-size wireless headphones. They won’t please those who are picky about sound, though.

Features

These are large and chunky, and like most Skullcandy headphones you can get the Hesh 2 Wireless in a few different colours, if not the massive library the wired version offers. Yet.

Our version is black with metallic highlights. The other common finish has a white frame with brown pads and gold highlights. The flavour is Beats-adjacent.

2017 Mercedes-AMG E43 First Drive: AMG for all

You could argue that the 2017 Mercedes-AMG E43 is a double-tweener. Just as the E-Class slots in-between its C and S siblings, so the Mercedes-AMG line sits in the gap between the mainstream Mercedes-Benz series and full AMG cars. The automaker is upfront about the fact that it saw unfilled “white space” between models like the C300 and the C63, and figured there’d be an audience of drivers wanting some of the performance and cachet of the latter but at a more affordable price.

The result is a hedge between two traditions. “All of these 43 models are designed and engineered by the same engineers,” Bernie Glasser, general manager of product management for Mercedes-Benz USA, insists, “as any 63 model.” However, the hallmark of the AMG – that its engine is built by a single person from the 125-strong rank of “master engineers” the company is so proud of at its Affalterbach facility – isn’t carried over to the 43 range.

Razer BlackWidow Chroma V2 Review : Now with Wrist Rests

Kết quả hình ảnh cho Razer BlackWidow Chroma V2 Review : Now with Wrist Rests

The time has come for the latest version of Razer’s flagship mechanical keyboard: the BlackWidow Chroma V2 ($170). As usual, the BlackWidow is an attractive peripheral with comfortable keys and some helpful extra features. Now, it also comes with a magnetic wrist rest. Unless you need Razer’s inventive new Yellow switch, however, it’s almost exactly the same as last year’s model. Those in need of a new keyboard will want to consider it, but if you already own a BlackWidow or a similar mechanical keyboard, there’s nothing to interest you here.

Design

If you’ve seen a Razer BlackWidow keyboard in the past, you’ll know what this one looks like. It measures 18.7 x 6.7 inches, has an all-black chassis and a full set of keys. The device is pretty big — partially to accommodate an extra six macro keys in a column on the far left. Aside from a small Razer logo toward the bottom, there’s not much adornment. It’s still a bit more angular and aggressive than competing models from Logitech and Corsair, but it would fit comfortably into just about any setup.

Maingear R1 Razer Edition Review : Best of Both Worlds

Kết quả hình ảnh cho Maingear R1 Razer Edition Review : Best of Both Worlds

Maingear and Razer are both known for making stylish products for hardcore gamers, so what happens when the two titans team up? You get the Maingear R1 Razer Edition, a gorgeous desktop that combines the drool-worthy LED lighting of a Razer product with the powerful guts of a Maingear PC. With support for the latest Core i7 processors and dual Nvidia graphics cards, the R1 can be configured into the VR and 4K machine of your dreams. We just wish its lighting were as dynamic as that of Razer’s own rainbow-emitting Chroma gadgets.

Design

Razer doesn’t make its own desktop PCs, but the Maingear R1 Razer Edition would have you think otherwise. This all-black tower is dripping with the same sleek, subdued style as you’ll find on Razer’s laptops, with the company’s signature snake logo stamped on the front and a steady neon-green glow oozing out of the bottom.

Hands-on with Ricoh’s compact Pentax KP

Ricoh has taken the wraps off it’s newest DSLR, the APS-C format KP. Resembling a mini Pentax K-1, and inheriting some of the same features, the KP is a more compact, modernized version of the K-3 II.

Hands-on with new Pentax KP

Its price and all we’ve been told point to it being an K-3 successor but the company says it doesn’t replace it. Whether this is to avoid devaluing remaining K-3 II stocks or because it hopes to introduce a higher-end sister model is unclear.

We got our hands on a pre-production sample recently, and we’ve prepared a quick product tour.

Asus Chromebook Flip C302CA Review

Kết quả hình ảnh cho Asus Chromebook Flip C302CA

With Android app support moving out of beta and becoming a standard part of Chrome OS this year, Chromebook 2-in-1s are becoming extremely important. The 12.5-inch convertible Asus Chromebook Flip C302CA is ready to run Android apps or dozens of Chrome tabs, with strong performance and a sense of style. This $499 bend-back 2-in-1 ($449 to start) sports a classy aluminum chassis, bright full-HD display and a solid Core m3 CPU for multitasking. If you’re willing to spend the money for a premium Chromebook, the Flip C302CA is your best choice.

Design

The aluminum Chromebook Flip C302CA looks and feels like a MacBook, so it might fool anyone who doesn’t see the big Asus logos on the 2-in-1’s lid and bezel. The Chromebook’s 360-degree hinge feels stable and makes it easy to transition the bend-back convertible among laptop, stand, tablet and tent modes.

2017 Audi Q7 v 2016 Land Rover Discovery comparison

When it comes to luxury seven-seat family SUVs, the Land Rover Discovery and Audi Q7 are standouts within the segment.

Funnily enough, both of these vehicles are second-generation but one is at the end of a very long incarnation, while the other is comparably a newborn.

The Discovery has been around since 1989 and the second-generation launched in 2004. The long-overdue third-gen has been revealed and will go on sale in Australia in July this year.

2017 Audi Q7 v 2016 Land Rover Discovery comparison

On the other hand, the Q7 was Audi’s first foray into the SUV market and launched in 2005. The second-generation was introduced in late 2015.

This is the powerhouse versus the party crasher. The Discovery has long been a popular sales powerhouse and even though it is long-in-the-tooth it has remained versatile, competitive and relevant over the years.

Kicker Bullfrog Jump Outdoor Bluetooth Speaker Hands-on Review

Kết quả hình ảnh cho Kicker Bullfrog Jump Outdoor

The Kicker Bullfrog family (left to right): Jump, Hop, and Skip.

“That’s an ugly speaker.” Oooh. That’s not what I was expecting to hear when I walked into the family room, Bullfrog Jump in tow. I like the way it looks. Then my son chimed in: “Well, it does sorta look like a space heater.” Hmmm…. He’s got a point, I thought to myself. OK, so it isn’t a work of art. It’s not supposed to be—it’s an outdoor speaker. And a darn good one at that.

The Bullfrog Jump hails from Kicker, the iconic car stereo brand founded by Oklahoman Steve Irby in 1973. Irby invented the self-contained speaker box for cars and pickups and went on to build a company that today offers a range of audio products—from headphones to portable speaker systems to a full line of autosound gear, including those famous ground-pounding Kicker boxes.

Onkyo T3 review

Kết quả hình ảnh cho Onkyo T3 review

The Onkyo T3 is little. Really little. Onkyo rates it at 250g. File this little chap under ‘travel speaker’ and you won’t go far wrong.

Expect anything more and you’ll likely be left waiting like a forlorn traveller at the wrong baggage carousel.

Build

The T3 is a classy-feeling speaker. Our unit, classed online as ‘white’ but really more a mix of copper, cream and white, channels an ’80s vibe.

If Bluetooth had been on the high-street back then – Hedy Lamaar’s 1942 invention was a bit of a slow starter, languishing for some time with the US Navy – this look would’ve gone down well.

The copper-coloured grille blends smartly with the white edging and the supplied cream cover protects your T3 from all manner of on-the-go dangers – in other words, your scratchy keys.

2016 – 2017 Harley-Davidson Forty-Eight Review

Stripped-down Sportsters have progressed beyond the days of the “$4,995 Sporty,” into what has become a blank canvas for designers at Harley-Davidson . Each new model seems to gravitate toward a specific design edict be it historical, custom or some combination thereof. The Sportster Forty-Eight is no exception as it reaches back to the 1970s and beyond for inspiration.

I like to see these somewhat-special bikes; they pay homage to their roots, but aren’t slaves to any specific model. So far, the special Sporties have been relevant, and it seems the designers aren’t jumping the shark quite yet so I look forward to the next concept. Meanwhile, let’s take a look at what makes the Forty-Eight so, well, forty-eightish.

Fujifilm X-T20 preview: The retro touch

When we reviewed the Fujifilm X-T10 compact system camera, we felt that its retro style was just right. Now Fuji has introduced the X-T20 which maintains that touch of retro appeal – and you can take that “touch” aspect literally, thanks to the addition of touchscreen controls this time around.

The X-T20’s arrival was no surprise, fresh off the heels of the higher-end X-T2 launch in the middle of 2016. And with that camera setting a new benchmark for mirrorless cameras, just how well does the X-T20 handle?

We got to try out a final production X-T20 ahead of launch day at a Fuji launch event to see whether this is the affordable system camera to go for.

Corsair K95 RGB Platinum review

Corsair arguably put RGB keyboards on the map, and now its most premium option yet, the K95 RGB Platinum, takes things to an inevitable extreme with an integrated light bar. Beyond providing 16.8 million color options all over the keyboard, Corsair’s flagship peripheral also comes equipped with Cherry’s proven Speed switches, 8MB of memory to store profiles and a military-grade aluminum frame.

However, all of this elegance comes with matching $199 (£179, AU$349) price tag. It’s a tall asking price and, while the K95 RGB Platinum offers many features we love, Corsair’s complex software continues to be a stumbling block.

Vivo V5 Plus Review : All Hype or All Right?

In the landscape of selfie-centric smartphones, Vivo was able to snag the crown with the launch of the 20-megapixel front cam equipped Vivo V5 just as 2016 was coming to an end. The Chinese company also teased the dual front camera equipped Vivo V5 Plus during the launch and, two months later, it’s finally time to take a closer look at V5 Plus to see if those dual front cameras and the hardware upgrade are worth its price tag. First, let’s look at its specs.

2015 – 2017 Harley-Davidson Sportster 1200 Custom Review

The Harley-Davidson Sportster ’s roots go all the way back to the 1952 flathead-powered K-Model. Harley went to an over-head cam engine in ’57 and slapped the XL designator on the family.

Conventional wisdom holds that the letters come from “eXperimental modeL” because that’s exactly what it was at the time, a market study to see how well a smaller, sportier product would perform in a market dominated by larger and heavier cruiser -style bikes. I suppose you could call the “eXperiment” a success given that we are still seeing XL models here in 2016.

One problem you run into with such a long-lived family is that you can run out of new things to do to keep it fresh, and the 2017 Sportster 1200 Custom demonstrates that Harley isn’t quite out of ideas yet, even if it borrows ideas from its own customer base.

KitSound Hive Evolution review

The KitSound name may not be familiar to you, but it’s probably only a matter of time.

The Hive Evolution is, at the time of writing, one of 26 portable speakers currently on the company’s UK website – so expect to see one on a shop shelf near you at some point in 2017.

Build and features

What may prove more of a challenge is immediately recognising one of these 26 speakers as a KitSound product without the benefit of first spotting the ‘ks’ logo.

The various visual styles offered are, shall we say, disparate. Check out, for example, the portable radio-aping, entirely made of wood, KitSound Soul.

Or the Invader, which, to our eyes, looks a lot like the plug to an airbed or dinghy.

Gigabyte Aero 14 review

Gigabyte is no stranger to thin gaming laptops, but the Taiwan-based electronics firm has outdone itself with the ultra-slim Aero 14. Measuring in at only 0.78-inches (1.99mm) thick and weighing 4.17 pounds (1.89kg), this 14-inch gaming laptop could almost be considered an ultra-portable.

Gigabyte promises to deliver the affordable, ultra-thin gaming laptop of your dreams with a 3K screen, Intel’s latest quad-core Kaby Lake processors, Nvidia’s GTX 1060 graphics chip and a massive battery. However, that massive battery doesn’t amount to massive longevity, and its killer price is subsidized by plenty of bloatware. Still, the Aero 14 proves to be an incredible value.

Nintendo Switch vs Wii U: What’s the difference?

We’ve now seen the Nintendo Switch in the flesh and are reasonably impressed. We also know the prices for the console and accessories. Plus the launch games line-up and list of those coming throughout 2017.

But there is still one big question we are asked most often: “Should I buy this or get a discounted Wii U?”

Gamers who desperately want to play The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild have a choice. It will be available for both the Nintendo Switch and Wii U on the same day, 3 March and, by all accounts, offers a very similar experience on both.

That’s why we’ve looked at certain facets of both consoles, based on what we know so far, to help you make that decision.

2017 Triumph Street Scrambler First Ride Review

How many new Triumph Bonnevilles are we up to now anyway? The Street Twin came first, just about a year ago. We liked the sweet little runabout instantly, and it proceeded to come out on top of every comparison test we threw at it, usually by quite a lot. Wait, Maybe it was only this one:

Retro Roadsters Gaiternationals

The Street Twin uses the 900cc “High Torque” Twin (instead of the 1200 Twins that go in the T120, Bobberand Thruxton), and that’s the engine Triumph decided to use in the all-new Scrambler. It’s a great little motor (that’s actually 900cc) that cranked out just about 53 rear-wheel horsepower in the Street Twin, which isn’t all that much but feels like way more thanks to the 58 pound-feet of torque it also produces at less than 3000 rpm.

Beats EP review

beats-ep-21

Beats makes plenty of headphones with sky-high prices, but its entry-level EP headphone is a surprisingly good value. The list price is $100, £90 and AU$140, but you can find it online in the US and UK for about a third off — closer to $70 and £60.The EP is an on-ear model that isn’t as swanky as Beats’ somewhat forgotten on-ear Mixr, as well as the over-ear Executive and Pro models. But thanks to its reinforced metal frame, it reminds me of low-frills versions of those headphones. By low-frills, I mean it isn’t incredibly flashy and it doesn’t fold up or fold flat for travel (it has no hinges).

The headphone is available in a few different color options — black, blue, red and white — and has an iPhone-friendly in-line remote/microphone for making calls, adjusting volume, and skipping tracks forward and back. (Some remote remote functions may not work with Android models but you can use the microphone for making calls.) The flat, linguini-style cord isn’t detachable and terminates in a straight plug.
