BlackBerry DTEK50: Release date, specs and everything you need to know

Blackberry is expected to launch three phones over the next year. One of them is the Argon and, by the sounds of it, this will be the company’s 2016 flagship phone. It’s a big, all touchscreen device with a powerful processor, support for the latest Quick Charge and Type-C connectivity.

Then there’s the Mercury; the next physical keyboard-equipped Android phonewith a design reminiscent of the Passport and Classic.

Before both of those, however, there’s the DTEK50 (previously referred to as the BlackBerry Hamburg, or Neon). This is BlackBerry’s first entirely touchscreen-based Android phone which fits neatly in to the high/mid end of the market next to phones from the likes of OnePlus, Alcatel and Oppo.

MOBVOI TICWATCH 2 REVIEW

If you’re an Android Wear enthusiast and need something to hold you over until Android Wear 2.0 is released later this year, feast your eyes on the Ticwatch 2. It runs Ticwear 4.0, an Android-based operating system built by a Chinese company called Mobvoi, which was founded in 2012 by ex-Googlers.

Mobvoi is a Google-backed company that is known for Chumenwenwen, its voice assistant and search service that’s used in apps like WeChat. This technology has also been powering Android Wear devices in China since late 2015, because Google can’t use its own services like Google Play and Google Now in the country, seeing as they are blocked by the Chinese government. Mobvoi is one of the first Chinese companies the search giant has financially backed since it left the country in 2010.

PlayStation Vue review

Original review follows…

Sony’s had a mixed year of PlayStation software launches. From the outlandishly-priced PlayStation Now to the much-improved PlayStation Musicthat replaced Music Unlimited in March, it seems like new releases are either falling flat on their face or hitting it out of the park, with only a product or two landing in between

PlayStation Vue, the new live TV streaming service that intends to compete withSling TV and the (assumed) upcoming Apple TV service, had all the makings of a home run. It has loads of content (over 80 channels if you shell out for the “elite” package), is able to record an unlimited amount of live TV for up to 28 days and uses something 20 million people already own, the PS4.

Sennheiser PXC 550 Wireless review

When it comes to headphones, one tends to associate Bose with the “business traveler” demographic. But Sennheiser’s making a pitch to that segment of the market with its newPXC 550 Wireless, a “premium” over-ear Bluetooth headphone that also features active noise-cancellation. It’s a direct competitor to Bose’s QuietComfort 35 and costs $399, £329 or AU$630.

Sennheiser is not only touting the PXC 550’s sound quality, but its customizable sound modes (via the company’s CapTune app for iOS and Android), touch controls, long battery life (30 hours) and strong headset performance for making phone calls.

Acer Aspire F15 Review

Navigating the sub-$1,000 mainstream laptop market is an exercise in compromise. Case in point: the Acer Aspire F15. For $599, you get a 15.6-inch laptop that offers good overall performance, a fast SSD and more than 6 hours of battery life, all in an attractive chassis. However, there are a couple of caveats in the form of a lackluster display and a spongy keyboard. But if you consider those minor quibbles, the F15 might just be the notebook you’re looking for.

Design

Thank you, Acer, for not phoning this one in. You could have just put out a slipshod notebook clad in ugly plastic. Instead, you had the foresight to adorn the lid in silvery metal with a visible and tactile crosshatch that plays up the raised diamond-cut Acer logo. I’m even a fan of the slim gray plastic border that culminates in a slim strip that forms the lip. The overall presentation is jaunty, indeed.

BlackBerry DTEK50 vs BlackBerry Priv: What’s the difference?

BlackBerry is said to be announcing three smartphones over the next 12 months, the first of which has debuted as “the world’s most secure Android smartphone”.

The device was codenamed Hamburg and Neon in rumours leading up to its announcement, but it launches as the BlackBerry DTEK50 and it’s a high to mid-tiered, entirely touchscreen device.

We’ve put the BlackBerry’s DTEK50 specs up against the flagship Priv to see how they compare and what the differences are.

Renault Zoe review: Electrical engineering

It’s been a typical complaint of the modern electric car that – from the perspective of asking price – most are simply too expensive to make sense. As one of the leaders in the electric-mobility revolution, Renault has sought to challenge that notion with the new Zoe.

Almost exactly the same size as the firm’s class-leading Clio supermini, the Zoe is a 5-door, 80-mile range battery-powered car which asks few compromises of its owner.

The boot is large, square and comparable with the Clio. The centre stack, screen and main controls are the same as Nicole and Papa’s car too. There’s space for five people on board – you can get a baby seat in the back quite easily (as we did, during our week with it) – and the Zoe looks normal, even appealing, with its fluid, sensual surface treatment.

Sure, the blue hue to some of the details and the plastering of printed circuit board graphics are a bit cheap and give the electric game away, but generally, the uninformed onlooker would be none the wiser as to this car’s powertrain. So is the Zoe the way to go electric?

Bush E3X preview: The £200/$300 Argos phone looking to topple Moto G

Is Bush back in fashion? That’s a loaded question. But in the UK brand’s latest E3X smartphone – which will sell exclusively through Argos – it’s got a competitive looking £200/$300 device to take on the likes of the Moto G4.

In mid-July at a behind-closed-doors Argos showcase event we got to handle the forthcoming phone and it’s not the lowly wedge of plastic that you might be expecting. For the mid-level phone market has evolved into perhaps the most exciting and competitive of all.

As you can see from our pictures, the Bush E3X is all metal edges with chamfered finishes, a solid build and textured rear back plate. Indeed it looks and awful lot like the OnePlus 2 (rather than the more affordable OnePlus X), which launched last year, and has some similarities too: there’s a fingerprint scanner, for example, but no NFC included (which is poor, as it means no Android Pay is possible).

An impassioned defense of the 2016 Lexus GS F, a car misunderstood

I cannot, rationally, say that you ought to buy the 2016 Lexus GS F, but I hope that a least one or two of you does. It has its share of hurdles, I know, like the love-it-or-hate-it design, not to mention the price. At $84,440 – rising, with the 17-speaker, 835W Mark Levinson audio system (which you really, really want), plus the fancy blue mica paint and a trunk mat, along with delivery, to $87,470 in total – this isn’t just a lot to pay for a Lexus, it’s a lot to pay for any luxury performance four-door.

Still, the GS F swims against the tide of fast sedans. Its naturally-aspirated V8 cocks a snook at the superchargers and turbochargers of its four-door rivals, a testament to Lexus’ reluctance to embrace such technologies until acquiescing with the NX200t a couple of years back.

Grand Seiko Black Ceramic Limited Edition Chronograph SBGC017 Watch Hands-On

At Baselworld 2016, we got to play with one of the most esoterically “Japanese” new limited edition Seiko watches to come out in a while. It’s amazing, easy to joke about, and yet another reason we love Japan’s finest horology. This is the (utterly ambiguously named) Grand Seiko Black Ceramic Limited Edition reference SBGC017. I’d like to immediately suggest a few different names for this timepiece, actually, since this isn’t even the only limited edition black ceramic watch released by the brand this year!

Grand Seiko Black Ceramic Limited Edition Chronograph SBGC017 Watch Hands-On Hands-On

If you look closely at the dial of the SBGC017 you’ll notice a pattern of small repeating trees. Weird, right? The black ceramic case is matched with a green tree dial, so I’d like to propose calling this watch the Grand Seiko “Green Tree Chronograph.” Alternatively you could call this the Grand Seiko “Onbashira Limited Edition,” because that is the name of the festival in Nagano, Japan, that the design is meant to honor.

2017 Chevrolet Corvette Grand Sport First Drive – Weekend warrior

There are three things you care about when hurtling towards a left-hand hairpin corner at 130-mph: grip, brakes, and more grip. Almost everything else in the universe vanishes to an impossibly small point when faced with the very real demands of shrinking asphalt, a retaining wall, and 3,300 lbs of accelerated metal. You’re not thinking about your job, wondering whether you remembered to pay the electric bill, or mentally re-ordering the films in the Fast and Furious franchise according to progressive levels of both baldness and perspiration on the part of its leads. It’s just you and the immediacy of the physics you’re juggling with one hand on the wheel, the other clenched around the shifter, and both feet cycling the pedals like the Tour de France if PEDs were finally made legal.

Maybe I should back that up a bit, because it turns out that it actually is my job today to make sure that the 2017 Chevrolet Corvette Grand Sport that I am driving traces a route on its built-in GPS lap timer that is identical to the track map at Atlanta Motorsports Park, which is located just a few minutes outside of Dawsonville, Georgia. The same rolling hills and twisting roads that gave NASCAR legend Bill Elliot the teenage training he needed to become the first million-dollar winner the series had ever seen now serve as the proving ground for Chevy’s latest high performance spin-off of the lauded C7 Corvette Stingray.

Casio Edifice EQB-500: Watch first, connected device second

Smartwatches have taken a few headlines over the past year, with devices like the Apple Watch offering a whole range of features for when you don’t want to be using your phone.

The most important thing about the Casio Edifice is that it’s a good looking watch. That’s a great thing, because as soon as you have the Edifice on your wrist, you’ll appreciate that it’s a watch you want to wear.

This is where many of the existing smartwatches go wrong: although there’s talk of premium luxury design, many fail to fulfil those aspirations. There are exceptions: we think the Apple Watch is interesting and refined in its design, and we think the Tag Heuer Connected hits the mark too.

But the Casio Edifice EQB-500 (which shares a design with many of the models in the Edifice range) hits that design mark well. It’s a big watch, with a depth of around 13mm, a face that’s around 43mm in diameter and a weight of approx. 175g. We love the blue colouration too: it’s unique and distinctive. There definitely aren’t enough blue watches around.

COMPARISON: 2016 CHEVROLET CAMARO RS VS. 2016 FORD MUSTANG ECOBOOST

We all have at least one dream car, and probably several. Most of them are dreams because they’re effectively unobtainable, but we each have at least one attainable car on the list. Something we’ll buy when we land that new job or big promotion. Back when I was in high school, my attainable dream had rear-wheel drive, a manual transmission, and a big V-8. That V-8 made just over 300 hp.

That car was a Pontiac Firebird WS6, and it hit 60 mph in 5 seconds flat on its way to a 13.5-second quarter mile at 107.4 mph per our records. Just 15 years ago, 300 hp was a lot, and it took a V-8 or a lot of boost to get it. In my car club, a 13-second quarter mile was damn quick for a street car, and breaking into the 12s was a major accomplishment. Only the hottest of hot rodders ran 11s.

Citizen Promaster Navihawk GPS Watch Review

We are now in the era of the GPS watch – which is a segment that, in my opinion, defines the apex of traditional electronic watch technology. In this review of the CitizenPromaster Navihawk GPS timepiece, I will discuss what makes this product so impressive, why I like it, what it is not, and what the future might hold for truly useful watches of this kind.

Citizen Promaster Navihawk GPS Watch Review Wrist Time Reviews

It is difficult to consider how to talk about GPS watches once again, as we have been covering modern GPS-equipped timepieces for quite some time. While Citizen didn’t invent the GPS watch, it did arguably start the modern trend of “self-sufficient” GPS timepieces with the introduction of the Citizen Satellite Eco-Drive back in 2011. Today, there is a healthy competition between the big three Japanese watch makers – Casio, Seiko, and Citizen – to each promote their own take on the modern GPS watch.

Motorola Moto E3 (2016) vs Moto E (2015): What’s the difference?

Lenovo-owned Motorola has launched several phones this year, hitting a range of price points. The Moto Z aims for the higher end of the market, the Moto G falls towards to lower end of the mid-range, while the latest Moto E continues to fulfill the budget sector.

How does the Moto E3 compare to last year’s model though and do you get more for your £100 this time around?

We have put 2016’s Moto E3 up against 2015’s second generation of Moto E to see what the differences are and how much has changed.

The Motorola Moto E3 takes its design cues from the Moto G4. It has a slim body that measures 8.6mm, a front-facing speaker at the bottom and the rear has a camera lens and LED flash housed in the same raised element.

Sony FE 90mm f/2.8 Macro G OSS Lens Review

Sony 90mm Macro Front Oblique View

We would be very hard pressed to find a poor macro lens as the general standard is very high across all marques. The 100mm macro is a particularly popular choice, doubling up as a useful portrait lens as well as other short telephoto applications. It also gives a working distance that gives room for effective lighting of the subject. Sony has been producing some outstanding lenses, so expectations for the Sony FE 90mm f/2.8 Macro G OSS lens will be high indeed. Here we look closely at the lens, using the 42MP Sony Alpha A7R II body for the review.

Now TV Smart Box review: Is live TV and Sky in one device worth the price?

When Sky first revealed that it was to introduce another new Now TV box, it was widely presumed that it would feature 4K streaming. But even though Ultra HD content is coming to the company’s flagship TV offering, Sky Q, the Now TVSmart Box maxes out at 1080p.

It has another raison d’être instead: It doesn’t have a 4K video output but it does sport a digital TV tuner to watch free-to-air programming. So, ironically, the “Smart” addition to this generation of set-top-box is the only non-smart thing about it.

In terms of everything else, it’s business as usual. This Now TV box is as fully featured as the smaller, older model. It hooks up to the internet through a wired or wireless connection and as well as the wealth of Sky movies, TV shows and sports on offer through different Now TV non-contract monthly passes, it has a collection of streaming applications to access through the homepage.

So is the digital tuner worth the extra cash the 2016 Now TV box costs? Or would you be better off opting for the cheaper device and using the Freeview tuner on your TV?

WIndows 10 Anniversary Update Review

What a difference a year makes. Last summer, Microsoft rolled outWIndows 10, a new system that was designed to both make up for the mistakes of the past — cough, Windows 8 — and move the PC ecosystem into a new era of convergence between different devices such as tablets, phones and laptops. Twelve months and 350 million installs later, Microsoft is rolling out “Windows 10 Anniversary Update,” a substantial patch that adds a few significant capabilities such as Cortana on the lock screen, “Windows Hello” Security for apps / websites and “Windows Ink,” a nerve center for pen-enabled apps.

If you’ve already made the jump to Windows 10, you’ll be getting Anniversary as a free, automatic update sometime on or soon after August 2nd. Members of Microsoft’s Windows Insider program already have all the Anniversary features installed in the latest test build and have had access to them in beta form for months now.

Sennheiser HD 201 review

There are a lot of things you can buy for £17/$25 – four boxes of 20 Chicken McNuggets with BBQ sauce, for example, or a standard Blu-ray disc on release day. Or, indeed, the Sennheiser HD 201 headphones.

These budget Sennheiser headphones are neither new nor particularly advanced. Nor are they shiny or packed with fancy hidden features.

Frankly, these over-ear headphones are as basic as they come, and it’s a small miracle that the HD 201s have survived in the cut-throat headphone market for the best part of ten years.

Best Compact Cameras 2016

The cameras in today’s smartphones are better than ever, but there are still limitations to even top-tier phones, such as the iPhone 6 Plus and the Samsung Galaxy S7. Wide angles, zoom lenses and aperture adjustments are all areas where smartphones fall short. Plus, there’s always the chance that your phone will run out of juice before you get that perfect holiday shot.

Compact cameras not only produce crisp images but also don’t take up much more space than the average smartphone. Combined with bigger batteries and expandable storage, compact cameras are easy-to-carry devices that can expand your photographic tool kit without weighing you down.

Our favorite compact camera is the Sony Cyber-shot DSC-WX500, which costs just under $300, and has a wide focal range, flip-up LCD, and a bevy of other features, such as Wi-Fi and image stabilization.

SteelSeries Rival 700 Mouse Review

When the average user goes to buy a mouse, they usually don’t care much about it, aside from the fact that it works, and is comfortable. However, when a PC gamer is in the market for a new mouse, there are a plethora of options that need to be considered. Buttons, sensors, weight, and more can all affect how your device performs during a game. Today, we’re going to take a look at the Steelseries Rival 700.

Overview

It’s rare to see a mouse that introduces a truly new feature, that isn’t merely cosmetic in nature. The Rival 700 is the first mouse to include tactile feedback. That’s right, this mouse will vibrate to let you know that your ult is ready, or to indicate that your health is low. The alerts can be triggered by any number of in-game events, which can give you an edge on the competition.

In addition to the tactile feedback, the mouse can also relay information via the OLED screen that’s on the side of the mouse. The screen can be used to display information about your current stats on headshots, K/D ratio, and more. And when you’re not gaming, you can set it to display a gif, or a static image to let people know exactly whose mouse it is.

Polaroid Snap Instant Digital Camera Review : Fun for Kids of All Ages

For those of an older generation, Polaroid instant cameras provided the first experience with photography: Take a picture, and then anxiously wait for the print to develop right in front of your eyes. This sort of instant gratification has been reimagined with the Polaroid Snap ($100), a 10-MP shooter with a built-in Zink printer that spits out a 3 x 2-inch hard copy of your image right after it’s snapped. The camera saves a digital file for posterity, too. Available in a handful of colors, the Snap will appeal to kids who want a fun camera to use to take and share photos.

Design

The Polaroid Snap’s rectangular, plastic body measures approximately 4.8 x 3 x 1.1 inches and weighs about 14 ounces. It should fit nicely into all but the tiniest tyke’s hands. Because this device consists of hard plastic that can withstand minor bumps, it’s probably best to use the bundled wrist strap, to help prevent yourself from accidentally dropping the camera.

Best 15 Compact Cars

The compact car is back and better than ever. First released in the U.S. in 1950, these vehicles with 100+ inch wheelbases now have all the technological advances, comforts, safety features, performance enhancements, and style of much larger and more expensive vehicles. The following are some compact cars that are making a splash.

2016 Nissan Sentra Release Date and Changes

1. NISSAN SENTRA

Two reasons many people choose compact cars are low price and great gas mileage. The Nissan Sentra offers both of these. It gets an average of almost 30 miles per gallon in the city and as many as 40 miles per gallon on the highway. Plus it costs under $20,000. Add a 1.8 liter, 4-cylinder engine that delivers 130 horsepower, a 6-speed manual transmission, and seating for 5, and the Sentra compares quite nicely with other vehicles it its class. The Nissan Sentra also has available Bluetooth®, NissanConnect, steering-wheel-mounted controls, a USB port, intelligent cruise control, and lots of safety features.

Moto Z Force and Moto Z Droid Review : Modularity Done Right

LG’s modular G5 may have hit the market first, but the new Moto Z lineup from Lenovo may turn out to be the phones that make modularity a household word. Acer Predator G1 Review : Small Gaming Stunner

The Acer Predator G1 proves that sometimes it’s OK to judge a book by its cover. This small stunner of a desktop finds a brilliant middle ground between looks and practicality, with a travel-ready chassis, dual headphone racks and some of the best lighting effects you can find on a gaming PC. You can even get this desktop bundled with its own suitcase for when you need to travel to a tourney.

But things only get more fun once you turn the Predator G1 on, thanks to its VR- and 4K-ready GeForce GTX 1080 graphics card and speedy Core i7 processor. Despite limited upgradability and a lack of configuration variety (for now), the Predator G1 is one of the most well-designed compact gaming PCs you can buy.
