Ducati Monster 1200 R vs. Triumph Speed Triple R – COMPARISON TEST

All this talk about sexual identity and which bathrooms transgender people should use is clouding a more important issue: What’s the sexiest naked bike made? There are more powerful and less expensive alternatives, but ultimately the debate comes down to theDucati Monster 1200 and Triumph Speed Triple 1050. Both were upgraded for 2016, making them sportier than ever. Little surprise they both carry an R suffix in their model designation. Say it like a pirate would: Aaarrrggghhh!

Photonic Swiss watch engraving might keep counterfeiters at bay

It’ll just take high-end watchmakers to jump onboard.

Counterfeit jewelry is a big business. Sometimes the fakes are so convincing that it can be nearly impossible to tell if that Rolex you’re eying is the real deal unless you have special equipment or an extremely trained eye. That’s something the folks behind DNAwatch want to address. The team has developed a method for imprinting the crystal on Swiss-made watches with a watermark that’s invisible to the naked eye, but shows up under ultraviolet lighting.

Samsung Gear Fit2 review

Gear Fit2 doesn’t fit in any category – which is why it succeeds

Samsung Gear Fit2 has all trimmings of a fitness tracker and smartwatch in one powerful, comfortable wearable. Best of all, you get all the features like GPS, music storage, smartwatch notifications and more in one surprisingly affordable package. With the exception of shaky heart rate readings, activity and fitness tracking remains accurate. Then there’s the fact that Gear Fit2 is still only a fit for those with Android phones. Simply put, Samsung Gear Fit2 is a solid option for the price of everything you’d want in a beefed up fitness tracker or watered down smartwatch. Just don’t expect it to replace the more robust wearables out there as it can’t wholly track everything for those hardcore workouts.

Acer Switch Alpha 12 Review

Does your laptop get louder than a jet engine? With the $650 Switch Alpha 12 ($800 as tested), Acer is selling you on complete silence; it’s the first liquid-cooled detachable on the market. It also happens to deliver strong performance and features a beautiful, bright 2160 x 1440 display. Plus, unlike the Microsoft Surface Pro 4, the Alpha 12 includes a keyboard cover in the box. Unfortunately, this convertible’s battery life is even shorter than the Surface’s.

Design

For the Switch Alpha 12, Acer opted for a Surface-inspired 2-in-1 design that combines a tablet, a kickstand and a keyboard. The kickstand pulls away from the aluminum rear of the device, which features a brushed motif and Acer’s logo, as well as a 5-megapixel camera.

Chord DAVE review

Chord Electronics has taken an eccentric route with its product names in recent years. We’ve had Hugo, Mojo and now the DAVE. The name is an acronym that stands for ‘Digital to Analogue Veritas in Extremis’. Yes, really.

Chord has something of a Midas touch when it comes to digital-to-analogue converters. It has dominated our Awards in recent years, and has set the standard with its innovative portable models.

But the DAVE isn’t about portability. It’s about maximising performance, and it does this brilliantly.

1987 Bimota YB5 Racer Tested On Track

The Bimota YB5 was tagged as the fastest, maddest, most expensive hyperbike on the planet when it was rolled out in 1987. With 130-horsepower from the amazing FJ1200engine, the YB5 was what the Hayabusa is now, only with the flair and exclusivity that comes with a bike that is hand built and one from a run of only 208 units.

The original YB5 was very trick for the era, with a chro-moly steel cradle frame running machined billet alloy sideplates. It ran a high-end Marzocchi 42mm fork, Brembo brakesand retailed for a then-stratospheric $11,000 USD. It was one of the most amazing, expensive, out of this world and radical motorcycles on the planet.

OnePlus 3 vs. OnePlus X: Is the OnePlus 3 worth the extra dough?

OnePlus finally unveiled the OnePlus 3, a solid flagship smartphone that’s affordable and powerful. If you’ve been following OnePlus, however, you’ll know that it also recently released an even more affordable phone — the OnePlus X. The latter represents the company’s first midrange phone with midrange specs, and while the X isn’t a flagship, it’s still a great device. But how does it compare with the OnePlus 3? Below, we’ve pitted the two phones against one another, so you can see for yourself.

How to use the camera in the HTC 10 to take awesome photos

For HTC, its latest flagship smartphone is an emphatic return to respectability. The jury is still out on how well the HTC 10 will sell in the end, but one of the primary reasons for the phone’s improved standing is its excellent camera. After a lackluster camera in last year’s One M9, HTC stepped up its game and managed to put together one of the best all-around shooters of 2016 with the HTC 10. New components and improved software make the phone a superb shooter.

HTC addressed some of its camera shortcomings with the One A9, a not-quite-flagship handset the company released in the fall, but it went further with the 10. While it would seem like a step back to go to a 12-megapixel image sensor, this one is actually a major improvement over the previous one. It’s an UltraPixel 2 sensor with 1.55 micron pixels, an f/1.8 aperture, and optical image stabilization (OIS). The immediate benefit is vastly improved low-light and night photos.

REL T/9I SUBWOOFER (OR TWO)

On the one hand, this is a review of the REL T/9i subwoofer. On the other hand, this is a review of the REL T/9i subwoofer. Because this is a review of two REL T/9i subwoofers. More specifically, this is a survey of how most people get deep bass very wrong, and how a pair of well-integrated RELs are the exception.

Let’s start with the T/9i itself. The top dog in REL’s new core T/i series, the T/9i is a solid square piano gloss cube with a new front firing 254mm long-throw drive unit with a steel chassis and a large inverted dust cap. This is joined by a matching 254mm downward firing passive radiator. Adding depth to the cabinet makes the cabinets act like a concert hall, designed to properly dissipate rather than propagate the back wave.

Ford Fiesta ST200 first drive: Irresistible overboost fun

When Ford announced that it would not be making a Fiesta RS, drivers the world over sighed. But that soon changed to cheers when the FiestaST200 was revealed as an overboost-toting powerhouse.

Despite a four-cylinder 1.6-litre engine sounding meagre, the ST200pushes out a respectable 197bhp. Plus the overboost, which delivers even more juice for a 20-second burst at 212bhp, kicks in when flooring the car in the middling gears. Fun times.

Does the Fiesta ST200 offer enough power and handling to be considered a worthy sportster? Is it at the sacrifice of comfort and in-car tech? And, as £22,745, is it priced well enough to be affordable to those that want it? We took the ST200 onto the wet British roads to find out.

The Isle of Man is a 221 square-mile plot of earth residing between the Irish and English nations. To a small population, it’s known as home, but to most, it’s known as the stage for one of the most dangerous races in the world.

For over a century, motorcycle riders have risked life and limb traversing a 37.5-mile loop (large enough to fit dozens of the world’s most famous race circuits within it) at maximum speeds. The Tourist Trophy (TT) is certainly the most important event of the year for residents, both as a historical point of unity and a flood of tourism capital.

While many of the best international tracks share real estate between motorbikes and cars, the Isle of Man is exclusively a two-wheeled affair… or rather it was. In 2011, Subaru entered the picture, becoming a title sponsor for the TT races and sending a stock 2011 WRX STi around the loop in just under 20 minutes to break the previous vehicle lap record. While many spectators enjoyed seeing a Subi rip around the course at the hands of IOM resident Mark Higgins, other “traditionalists” were not pleased with the four-wheeled intruder.

Lenovo Moto Z vs. Moto X Pure: Does Lenovo’s new flagship stand up to last year’s champ?

Lenovo has finally taken the wraps off the long-awaited Moto Z. The Moto Z, the successor to last year’s Moto X, actually marks a pretty big change for the Moto lineup. Sure, Motorola was already under Lenovo’s control by the time the Moto X Pure was announced, but it was likely already planned by the time Lenovo finalized the acquisition. That means that the Moto Z is the first device Lenovo has had a real say in. But how does the Moto Z stack up against the previous flagship, the Moto X Pure (Style)? Check out the head-to-head showdown below to find out.

Hennessey’s Limited Edition Mustang Blasts 804 Horsepower

Custom tuning outfit Hennessey is celebrating two and half decades of turning out stupid-fast cars this year. Naturally, they’re commemorating it with another stupid-fast car. That will be the Hennessey 25th Anniversary Edition HPE800 Ford Mustang.

A limited edition Mustang receiving the outfit’s HPE800 upgrade, it retains the same five-liter V8 and 2.9-liter supercharger system, pushing engine output to 804 horsepower and 648 pound-feet of torque. That’s enough to slingshot the car from standstill to 60 mph in as little as 3.1 seconds, all while reaching top speeds of 208 mph.

Meizu Pro 5 Ubuntu Edition review

I was excited when the Meizu Pro 5 Ubuntu Edition arrived in the post. I quickly opened the impressive packaging, picked up the beautiful hardware and eagerly turned the phone on. Soon, I was using Linux – specifically Ubuntu – on a phone for the very first time.

The Meizu Pro 5 is also available with Android onboard, but the Ubuntu variant is far for interesting – and possibly a sign of things to come.

There’s Twitter on your home screen, and you can have other apps there too; I guess the idea is to give you access to the stuff you’re interested in without you having to leave the home screen.

As time went on, however, I found that the appeal of the different look was overtaken by the disappointment of just how slow this phone was. But let’s start with the design of the Meizu Pro 5, and look at what the hardware offers.

For your eyes only: Samsung Galaxy Note 7 reportedly includes an iris scanner

Cross out Samsung Galaxy Note 6 with your S-Pen and jot down the new name:Samsung Galaxy Note 7. It’s reportedly launching in a month along with a brand new biometric feature.

The Note 6-skipping name is so future-forward that it’ll include an iris scanner, according to notable phone leaker Evan Blass. If true, this will allow you to unlock the new Android phone with your eyes.

The Galaxy Note 7 name and iris scanner news are both a surprise for the phablet series, which typically takes cues from Samsung’s flagship S series, but adds a bigger screen and stylus.

Samsung Gear 360 arrives in US (but you probably can’t buy it)

Samsung’s Gear 360 camera is finally going on sale in the US, but you’re almost certainly not able to actually buy one. The 360-degree camera was revealed alongside the Galaxy S7 earlier this year, but until now has only been available for sale in markets outside of the US. Now, Samsung is kicking off sales, but in a very limited way.

In fact, if you want the $349.99 camera – which has lenses on both sides, and can shoot both 360-degree still photos as well as videos – you’ll have to be attending VidCon this week.

Mercedes-Benz AMG GT R will leave you green with envy

Mercedes-Benz’s latest special edition is all about green. Just unveiled in the UK, the AMG GT R is, obviously, an eye-catching shade of green. It’s called “AMG green hell magno” in reference to Germany’s Green Hell, the nickname for the Nürburgring Nordschleife course, which is where the car was tested and tuned. This new performance model will also leave other AMG GT owners seeing green, as the R’s specs even top the AMG GT S. And lastly, if you want to drive one, it’s going to cost you a whole ton of green.

Just as you’d expect, Mercedes has made the AMG GT R lighter and more powerful than previous AMG GT models. It’s capable of a top speed of 198 mph, and can go from 0-60 in just 3.5 seconds.

Panasonic DMR-PWT655EB PVR/Blu-ray Player Combi Review

What is the Panasonic DMR-PWT655?

This multi-functional device combines Blu-ray and DVD playback, Freeview HD recording and Smart TV features in one box. The PWT655EB is Freeview Play branded, meaning you get all the catch-up content from the stables of ITV, Channel 4 and the BBC, as well as a time-travelling, backwards scrolling guide to, hopefully, make finding all the previously aired programming easier to find, There’s a one terabyte (1TB) hard drive built-in, which according to Panasonic allows for the recording of 684 (nice & precise) hours of high definition recording and it’s also capable of playing networked and locally stored content in Ultra HD, as well as scaling content to 4K resolutions. Note, the DMR-PWT655EB is not an Ultra HD Blu-ray player, for that you will need to look at Panasonic’sUB8900. With current (June 2016) online prices of around £229/$343, this combo device looks like representing very good value, let’s see how it fares in action.

Top 10 Features Of The 2016 KTM 690 Duke

In his review of the 2016 KTM 690 Duke, Evans Brasfield gave the bike a score of 89.75%. That’s a strong score, to be sure, but I didn’t pay much attention to it since, frankly, I wanted to find out for myself. Well, I’ve finally had the chance to do so, as we’ve recently put the KTM up against the new Suzuki SV650, the Yamaha FZ-07, and a first-gen SV650 from 1999. That test will go up tomorrow, but in the meantime let me say that I concur with Evans’ rating. It’s a fun bike, but without giving too much away here in the opening paragraph, here are 10 features to like about the 2016KTM 690 Duke.

Hasselblad X1D-50c Hands-On Preview

At the launch of the Hasselblad X1D – Hasselblad started with the fact that there have been 75 years of Hasselblad, with the Digital H system being introduced in 2002.

Perry Oosting, CEO of Hasselblad, explained that since 2015, Hasselblad has been working to re-invent itself, and the first fruits of this labour were seen with the introduction of the new Hasselblad H6D system in April 2016. When this was launched, we spoke to Perry Oosting, who hinted that something new and more portable was coming…

Hasselblad X1d Camera And Lenses

The World’s First Digital Medium Format camera system* the Hasselblad X1D features a 50-megapixel medium format sensor. With a mirrorless camera design, and the shutter unit built-in to the lenses, the camera body is extremely thin and compact considering the sensor size, and this means that the camera is smaller than a full-frame Digital SLR and similar in size to a full-frame digital rangefinder, and some APS-C mirrorless cameras:

Acer Aspire R 15 Review

While you can get laptops with full-HD screens and 2-in-1s that bend back into tablets for under $700, most make you compromise color output or build quality. The Acer Aspire R 15 bucks that trend, delivering a premium aluminum design, fantastic keyboard and extremely vibrant 15-inch display for a starting price of just $649.99. The R 15 isn’t without its trade-offs — most notably its mechanical hard drive and copious bloatware — but you won’t see a better value on a large-screen 2-in-1.

LG X Screen review

With a name like LG X Screen, you might expect LG’s latest to have a huge or super-sharp display. It has neither. In fact, it’s a lot more interesting than that.

This is a mid-range, modestly sized Android smartphone with a decidedly outlandish component: a secondary ‘ticker’ screen positioned immediately above the main one. If that sounds familiar, you’d be right, as this setup first debuted in the US on the LG V10.

Otherwise, it’s a quietly accomplished phone that will give you a polished Android experience for a reasonable price of around £200, US$360 (roughly AU$485).

Of course, the brand new Moto G4 is better spec’d for even less money, so LG’s stand-out features will need to make a telling contribution.

Surface Pro 4 purchase will net students a free Xbox One

There are many perks that come along with being a student, but aside from the opportunity to better yourself and the prospect of a future so bright you have to wear shades, one of the major benefits is all the deals you get. The consumer electronics industry is no stranger to offering up such discounts, and todayMicrosoft announced one that might be hard for a lot of students to pass up: buy a Surface Pro 4, get an Xbox One for free.

That could prove to be a pretty tempting offer, especially when you consider that many students may already be in the market for a tablet. Technically speaking, Microsoft isn’t exactly handing over a free Xbox One with the purchase of a Surface Pro 4, instead discounting the whole package by $300 when you buy both together. Still, when you do the math, it equates to a free Xbox One, so we’re thinking most people aren’t going to get hung up on the way the fine print is phrased.

I hope this is the next iPhone (after the iPhone 7, that is)

Today we have a peek at the next iPhone – a concept for a device that may be Apple’s vision for the iPhone 7’s next-of-kin. There’s word that the iPhone 7 wont be a miracle of engineering and mind-blowing madness – that it won’t be the major upgrade this 2-year cycle Apple always works with would have us expect. This is not the iPhone we were expecting, or hoping for. Instead, the big change in smartphone action, I hope, will be coming in 2017. This device will be the real brain-blaster.

The next iPhone is something I hope will change the way we use smart devices. It’ll do this by changing the way the device works. Developers will be able to make use of a different sort of display technology, one that’ll adapt to whatever setup each app it runs requires.

Sigma sd Quattro camera launches next month for $799

Sigma introduced the sd Quattro cameras in February, but did not detail pricing or availability. That changed today, with the company (finally) dropping both details: you’ll be able to purchase the sd Quattro next month for $799 USD, a price that jumps to $999 USD if you purchase the camera bundled with the Sigma 30mm 1.4 DC HSM Art lens. The company will also be launching the new Sigma EF-630 flash next month for $379 USD, and a USB docking station for $79 USD.

Sigma announced the details on Friday, but pricing and availability for the similar Sigma sd Quattro H model is notably absent. As far as the regular sd Quattro model goes, users will get an APS-C sized Foveon X3 image sensor capable of producing 51-megapixel images. The sensor boasts three photodiode layers, one for each RGB color, and does not feature a low-pass filter, allowing it to capture 100-percent of all three colors.

Building A DIY Sealed Subwoofer

Here at Audioholics, we have a great affinity for bass. Unfortunately, getting copious amounts of deep bass usually requires a fair amount of cash. However, if you’re comfortable with a bit of woodworking, there is a cheaper alternative: DIY.

Here we’ll look at how to design and build a DIY sealed subwoofer. Sealed subwoofers have a few important advantages for the DIYer. First and foremost, they’re relatively easy to build compared to a vented box or a more exotic alignment like a tapped horn or transmission line. The sealed alignment is also relatively tolerant of minor changes in box volume and driver-to-driver manufacturing variations. Last but not least, they need less protection than ported subs, which can quickly overload below their tuning point. On the down side, without a port to augment system output, you need a meatier driver to achieve solid deep bass.

HP Spectre Review

Say hello to the new thinnest laptop in the world: the HP Spectre. But when you move past the attention-grabbing stats, the Spectre has much more to offer than just a svelte design That’s because even in a chassis that’s just 0.41-inches thick, you still get a full Core i5 or i7 CPU, a superbright display and one of best keyboards on a laptop yet, all for as little as $1,170. With looks that remind me more of an Italian hypercar than a consumer laptop, the Spectre feels like as much of a thoroughbred as a Ferrari or Lamborghini. However, if you want the HP Spectre’s design and strong performance, you’ll also have to live with its weak battery life and warm temperatures.
