Acer H277HU USB-C Monitor Review : Your MacBook’s best friend

USB-C is our salvation from cable madness, at least that’s what they tell us, but as early adopters of Apple’s MacBook or other cutting-edge hardware have realized, reality hasn’t caught up to the promise. The theory, and indeed the core technology, is sound, but it’s illustrative of the dearth of peripherals that the Acer H277HU display is causing as much interest as it is. Yes, you can plug it into your old-school PC, but this is really all about USB-C.

Kia Optima 2.4 Si v Subaru Liberty 2.5i Premium Comparison

Mid-sized sedans really do get a bad rap these days. Not so long ago, a Subaru Liberty was a genuinely cool family sedan with badge cred, not to mention the cache of a symmetrical all-wheel-drive system. Around that same time, you can assume theKia Optima (if available) would have been a stylish alternative to the usual fare. Now though, the rush to SUVs has left the medium sedan segment trampled and unloved, much like an old laptop. The times, they are a-changin’…

In the shadow of that rabid SUV stampede though, and perhaps in spite of it, we’ve brought two compelling value stories within the medium sedan segment together to duke it out. The 2016 Subaru Liberty 2.5i Premium, and 2016 Kia Optima 2.4 Si are both sharply priced, generously proportioned and a none-too-subtle reminder of why Australians had such a long-running love affair with mid-sized sedans.

LG OLED65E6P 4K OLED TV Review

As we’ve seen time and time again, newer OLED (organic light-emitting diode) TVs tend to top our charts due to their incredible contrast and vivid colors. That’s why our #1 TV is the LG G6, a 4K OLED with an innovative design aesthetic. But because the tech is still new, it comes with a double-take price.

The LG E6 Series (MSRP: $5,999) is a step down from the flagship G6, but that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t expect great things. The 65-inch E6 is not just a futuristic 4K OLED, it’s also classed as “HDR Pro,” meaning it’s compatible with both the HDR10 and Dolby Vision content formats.

Meizu Pro 6 review

1. Introduction

Meizu’s Pro series has always been about the full flagship experience. Big high-res screens, top-notch chipsets and advanced imaging all wrapped in a fancy package with a teasing price tag.

The MX4 Pro was perhaps the pinnacle of the Pro lineup with its 1536p display and high-end camera setup. The Pro 5 got a slight haircut, trading the near-WQXGA screen resolution for an AMOLED panel and a smoother user experience. The Pro 6 chose to pursue 3D Press and boasts the latest 10-core chipset by MediaTek in an attempt to demonstrate some muscle.

Lenovo Ideacentre AIO 700 Review – Great 4K Value

All-in-one PCs are better-known for being convenient rather than truly exciting, but that trend is starting to change. Just look at Lenovo’s IdeaCentre AIO 700 ($799 starting, $1,099 as reviewed), which packs a rich 4K display and Intel’s innovative RealSense camera into an upgradeable and fairly affordable package. Our configuration also includes a 6th-Generation Core i5 processor, 8GB of RAM and a 1TB hard drive, plus Nvidia GTX 950A graphics for playing games. Lenovo’s home PC might not be the sexiest-looking all-in-one, but it hits a wonderful sweet spot, balancing price, performance and awesome features.

Samsung Galaxy J5 (2016) review

1. Introduction

The Galaxy J5 (2016) is the centerpiece of the company’s mid-range portfolio for the year. With its predecessor becoming a huge hit in developing markets, the company really needs the 2016 model to come out good and help keep Chinese makers at bay.

A quick glance at the specs sheet shows that Samsung followed the “If it’s not broken, don’t fix it” saying to the letter. With the internals mostly unchanged, Samsung chose to focus on the design instead, hoping that the metal body will help its offering stand out.

Earbuds are not hard to come by, unless you want a pair that doesn’t sound like garbage without costing a minor fortune. The ones from the dollar store? Garbage. The ones that come with your phone? Maybe not garbage, depending on the phone you bought (e.g., Apple Earpods are alright), but they’re not blowing anyone out of the water. What lies above good enoughand below breaking-the-bank? The Symphonized NRG 3.0 wood in-ear headphones.

Panasonic DMP-UB900 vs Samsung UBD-K8500 review

The Chosen One will bring light to shadow and change our perception of reality, generally ushering in an age of clarity and enlightenment. So says the legend anyway.

But it’s not really a legend. Ultra HD Blu-ray is a real thing. It genuinely can bring you 4K resolution, billions of colours and high dynamic range.

We’ve been talking about the new format for so long that it had begun to feel like the stuff of fantasy. Then it arrived, swiftly followed by the first Ultra HD Blu-ray players. The time for theory is over. Now we must apply.

Panasonic has the DMP-UB900, Samsung has the UBD-K8500, and we have them both. But which one is worthy? Which one will do your AV temple proud?

HP Omen Enters Sub-$1000 Gaming Laptop Arena

HP has ominous intentions for budget gamers–and that’s a great thing. Following the launch of last year’s Omen gaming laptop, Starting July 10, HP is expanding the line to include several new gaming laptops that vary in size and price, including a 15.6-inch and a 17.3-inch notebook that start at $899 and $979 respectively. The new strategy allows the company to reach gamers at every budget, without sacrificing too much power or quality.

I had the opportunity to get up close and personal with both laptops during a recent press event, and I’ve got to say that HP might be on to something with its new approach.

ZTE Axon 7 Hands-on Review

zte axon hands on

ZTE’s Axon 7 packs power and class into one incredible flagship killer.

These days, even budget phones are pretty amazing pieces of hardware, and there are a number of so-called flagship killers on the market. Among the best high-powered phones with low prices we saw in 2015 was the ZTE Axon Pro. ZTE hopes to challenge the likes of the Galaxy S7, iPhone 6S, LG G5, and HTC 10with a new flagship killer, the Axon 7.

The Axon 7 stays true to the original with its 5.5-inch, 2,560 x 1,440 pixel resolution screen, though this time, it’s an AMOLED panel instead of IPS screen. In other words, the Axon 7 should display deeper blacks and contrast to help colors jump out with more drama. The display curves on the sides to meet the phone’s metal body, which is smooth and rich to the touch.

Quad Artera Play & Artera Stereo review

Take one look at Quad’s Artera range and we challenge you not to want to take a listen.

The duo – the Artera Play CD player/DAC/preamp and the Artera Stereo power amp – are so beautifully designed that it’s a love-at-first-sight situation; we’re in love with the idea of them before we’ve even get to know them.

They don’t have to come as a pair, but they’re quite obviously designed to, so much so that we can’t see why you would consider buying one without the other. For that reason, we’re testing them as a system, so all you need to do is add speakers.

Lonestar Racing has made a name for themselves supplying high performance race ATV’s and exotic duners, this is one of their most amazing builds yet.

Alcatel OneTouch Fierce XL Review : This Cheap Windows Phone Is Just OK

There’s a bit of cognitive dissonance involved when you name your budget smartphone the “Fierce XL.” But that’s what Alcatel has done with its low-price Windows Phone, which boasts a 5.5-inch 720p display, quad-core processor and 8-megapixel rear camera. Casio Smart Outdoor WSD-F10 review

With the Casio WSD-F10 Android Wear has come of age. The seamless transition between stock Google and Casio developed apps and sensors shows the power the operating system. As an outdoors smartwatch Casio has a lot going for it, there’s loads of data to enjoy and the company has gone a long way to making it useful, with the customisable alerts and alarms. However, the lack of GPS is a major bugbear and for many this will be a dealbreaker for the Casio. While there are sufficient workarounds, the chance to make the perfect outdoor smartwatch has been handed to Nixon, for now.

ASUS ROG G501VW review : An excellent laptop, if you don’t mind the heat

At Rs 96,000, the ASUS G501V is not a cheap toy. Justifying that price however are beefy specs and a UHD display, both packed into a relatively slim—for a gaming laptop—form factor and lightweight body. But is it the best one for you? Let’s find out.

Build and design: 7/10

ASUS ROG G501V Tech2 (1)

The laptop is quite nicely built. An all-aluminium body is marred by a plastic hinge that does feel a little flimsy. Moving past that however, you get a simple, black, brushed aluminium finish and red highlights for the trackpad, logo and keyboard.

TomTom Spark Cardio + Music review : Leave your smartphone home

Fitness tracking has really picked up in India over the last year and half. Products from FitBit, JawBone, Xiaomi to smartwatches with fitness tracking features to GPS watches which go beyond just step tracking, have flooded the market over the last couple of years.

Earlier this year, TomTom announced a series of GPS watches starting from Rs 13,999. It announced the Spark series of watches which had the added functionality of storing music on your watch to listen to while on your run or when out cycling, instead of lugging around your smartphone or portable media player for the same task. So how much of an improvement is the TomTom Spark Cardio + Music GPS fitness watch over the older TomTom Multi-sport cardio watch ? Let’s take a look

Kawasaki Z125 Pro Vs. Honda Grom – On The Dyno!

In my First Ride Review of the 2017 Kawasaki Z125 Pro I mentioned, “the Kawasaki, and its oversquare Single, feels like it has more bottom-end grunt compared to the Honda.” Of course, the Honda in question here is none other than the Grom.

Apparently, my butt dyno needs some calibration. We’ve finally got our hands on a Z125 Pro and the first place we took it to was an actual dyno – the one operated by our friend Chris Redpath ofMotoGP Werks – and the result was a little surprising. The baby Z spun the drum to the tune of 8.3 hp at 7800 rpm, and 6.5 lb-ft at 6100 rpm. For comparison, in stock form the Grom puts out 8.7 hp at 6700 rpm and 7.8 lb-ft at 5200 rpm. So not only does the Honda make more power and torque than the Kawasaki, it also pulls off the feat with fewer revs. Advantage Honda. On paper, anyway.

Hands-on : HP Omen Desktop Brings Looks and VR-Ready Power

Osterhout Design Group wants to make your next pair of AR smartglasses

ODG has been around for ages and knows a thing or two about augmented reality

ODG AR smartglasses: What are they?

Augmented reality is still an area that has yet to really show the world what it can do. Beyond apps, we’ve seen bits and pieces of HoloLens, Meta, Magic Leap, and so forth but nothing’s quite ready for the public eye. Google Glass is the closest piece of consumer AR though it didn’t take off as expected leaving developers to scratch it and head back to the enterprise drawing board.

That means there’s nothing really stopping a little known company from quietly stealing all the AR thunder. Osterhout Design Group, or ODG, has been in the biz for years – almost 20 – and thanks to its CEO and founder Ralph Osterhout, it knows the tech really well.
