Apple’s Q1 2016 revenue grows while Mac sales slow

This afternoon Apple reported their financial Q1 2016 earnings with a cool $29.3 billion in revenue in the Americas and a total of $75.9 billion worldwide. This is up 47% sequentially and up 2% year-over-year, while guidance from the company last quarter suggested they’d be “$75.5 billion and $77.5 billion” – so they’re right on the money. This overarching revenue story is told by iPhone sales, primarily, and iPad, Mac, and Services revenue to a slightly lesser degree.

Why VR is the future of gaming, Part 2: Toybox and human interaction

Last week I wrote about my experiences with VR at CES in Part 1 of “Why VR is the future of gaming.” I talked a lot about my experience with the Oculus Rift, and the Bullet Train demo. It definitely changed my perception of VR, but that wasn’t my only great experience with the technology. Well, today it’s time for me to talk about the experience I had directly following my time with the Bullet Train demo.

The Technology of the Cadillac CT6

Today’s luxury cars can’t just be leather and wood-filled clubhouses, they need to have more tech than NASA, too. Cadillac isn’t shy when it comes to raiding the engineering labs, and so the new 2016 CT6 has more than its share of gadgetry and geek-appeal, whether you’re at the wheel or just enjoying the ride.

Magnetic Ride Control

Cadillac isn’t the only company to use magnetorheological fluid-filled dampers on its cars, but the CT6 is an excellent example of why the technology is so well-lauded. Thanks to its changing physical properties when different amounts of electricity are applied, the CT6’s suspension can adjust from smooth highway cruiser to surprisingly aggressive canyon hooligan at the touch of a button.

Microsoft’s iPhone keyboard looks brilliant

Microsoft’s ventures into the phone market have never really taken off. However, that’s not to say that the phones don’t have some features that people enjoy. Microsoft recently announced that they are bringing their smartphone keyboards to iOS and Android, but it looks as though they might be sneaking a brand new keyboard design into the other platforms.

Some users have been selected to beta test Microsoft’s keyboards on their iPhones. And those users have found a rather new and interesting keyboard waiting to be used. WordFlow is the name of the popular keyboard on Windows phone, but the one on iOS is slightly different.

Leica M-P “Panda Edition” limited run camera unveiled

Leica has introduced a new limited edition camera called the Leica M-P “Panda Edition.” This camera features the same German construction expected from Leica alongside a design inspired by the panda. The black camera body is contrasted by white elements, something that “echoes past Oriental artistry.” Two versions of the camera are offered, both in very limited quantities.

The camera is only being released in China, unfortunately, though collectors elsewhere may be able to get their hands on one with enough effort. The first of the two limited edition sets includes a Leica Summicron-M 28mm f/2 ASPH lens, while the second feature a Summilux-M 35mm f/1.4 ASPH lens.

Apple 5se rumored to use A9/M9 chips

We’ve heard a fair bit about Apple’s rumored iPhone 5se in the last few days. Obviously, it’s pretty big news that the company is not only releasing a smaller, 4-inch phone, but rolling back a number in their naming convention. Well now we have new information about what will potentially be inside the smaller device when it releases.

All of our previous sources pegged the new, strangely-named phone as having Apples A8 and M8 chips inside. However, with the iPhone 7 rumored to have A10/M10 inside, it wouldn’t exactly be a smart move for the company to shove chips that are two generations old inside of a new phone. And as it turns out, that may not be what we end up getting.

Galaxy Tab E 7.0 specs leak, 1.3GHz CPU and 1.5GB RAM

Details on a coming Samsung tablet have leaked and that tablet is called the Galaxy Tab E 7.0. The new tablet is an entry-level unit that brings a smaller size device to sit under the Galaxy Tab E 8.0 tablet that launched last week in Taiwan. That Galaxy Tab E 8.0 device had 4G LTE support, the leak claims LTE and WiFi versions for the smaller tablet.

As with all leaks, you need some salt along with this until the official announcement is made. The leakster claims that the tablet will run a 1.3GHz processor backed with 1.5GB of RAM. The 7-inch screen has a display with resolution of 1280 x 800.

Windows Cortana will snoop through your email to set appointments

Cortana was designed in many ways to mimic a personal assistant in Windows. Just say “Hey Cortana” and she’ll respond with an answer to a question, or carry out any number of functions for you. Well today she’s going to start scanning your emails in order to create helpful reminders in your calendar.

Any good assistant that has access to your business email would probably also want to put your scheduled appointments in your calendar. I say “probably” because I’ve obviously never had an assistant, and am just going off of what people do in the movies. Of course, Cortana will need your permission to actually add the appointment, as she can’t tell the difference between important meetings, and casual conversations that don’t need appointments.

Burgman 650 ABS Scooter First Ride Review

Maxiscooters have carved out a specialized niche in the world of motorcycling. The big-displacement step-thrus offer motorcycle-like performance in a myriad of roles: trusty commuter, weekend play bike and even a touring rig. Suzuki helped define the maxiscooter segment in America when it introduced the Burgman 650 in 2002. Now a decade and 83,000 units sold worldwide later, Suzuki gives the 2013 model a well-deserved redesign.

Suzuki Hayabusa First Ride Review

How strong is your will power? Personally, I have very little. I eat too much, I gamble too often and I ride too fast. So when the invite to ride the 2013 Suzuki Hayabusa popped into my inbox, I tried my best to pawn it off on someone else in the office who might be more apt to resist the temptations that come with riding a machine whose horsepower numbers and top speed flirt with the double century mark. Alas, we are all weak-willed souls here at MotoUSA and not a single taker could be found. So I was it. “Moderation in all things” would be my mantra in the days leading up to the intro, but as soon as I thumbed the starter button on the Hayabusa that all went out the window. It seems the little devil on my shoulder had other plans…

The amount of storage is phenomenal, its topcase huge, saddlebags deep. We stuffed the saddlebags with gear and clothes then slid our backpack, computer, cameras and snacks into the topcase and hit the road running.

2016 Beta 300 RR Two-Stroke Review

The Italian manufacture Beta has been successfully integrating into the off-road American market for several years, proving it has what it takes to win events and championships here in the US and all over the world. Cody Webb rode a two-stroke Beta to the EnduroCross Championship in 2014, and Beta’s dealership network is now over 100 dealers strong. You might remember Beta way back when they were powered by KTM engines, but those days are long gone and everything on a Beta is made by Beta. And if you’re a dirt bike rider that’s never heard of Beta, it’s ok to crawl out from under your rock now. Beta is the real deal and is getting bigger and better at an exponential rate.

KTM 1190 Adventure First Ride Review

It’s awesome, and, no, you can’t get one. Yet. KTM has been hyping the Adventure 1190 for almost a year since it broke cover just before the INTERMOT show last September. While the 2013 models hit the dealership floors overseas, the US models will not be available until December or January. KTM invited MotoUSA to sample the standard Euro-spec 2013 1190 Adventure on some choice Southern California backroads – to make our American readers even more envious of what might be the new king of the adventure-touring category. It’s almost too much to bear, isn’t it?

2014 Harley-Davidson Touring First Rides Review

Harley-Davidson dropped a bombshell when it revealed an all-new liquid-cooled V-Twin at its dealer show last week in Denver. The “Twin-Cooled” Twin Cam 103 came as a genuine surprise to the assembled journalists, who had gathered in the mile-high setting for a first ride evaluation of H-D’s 2014 Touring lineup. Even more surprising was how much Harley downplayed its new liquid-cooled engine, the biggest technological divergence in H-D’s product line since the V-Rod.

Honda nurtured generations of motorcyclists with its original CT and ST line of small displacement street-legal motorcycles. Naim DAC-V1 review

It’s fair to say Naim didn’t spring into digital music with quite the same gusto as some of its competitors.

Instead, it scoped out the market and tackled one thing at a time – first by focusing on streaming, then adding digital outputs to its CD players, before turning to the burgeoning ‘desktop audio’ sector with the launch of the DAC-V1 in 2013.

Garmin Forerunner 235 review : We put Garmin’s new running watch with heart rate monitoring through its paces

The Garmin Forerunner 235 is a solid running watch that blends top sports metrics with excellent daily activity tracking and a lovely design. It’s disappointing that the accuracy of the built-in HR monitor isn’t good enough for proper high intensity workouts or precise heart rate training but it’s still capable of colouring workout data for less hardcore runners. The device feels less fun to use than the TomTom Spark but Garmin’s ecosystem, sports metrics ad activity tracking are much more powerful.

Apple’s car project leader tipped in plan to leave company

Apple has long been rumored to be working on a “Project Titan” electric car — though the company hasn’t made it official, mostly everyone including Elon Musk believes it’s happening. The project is said to be led by Steve Zadesky who, according to a new report, is planning to leave the company. Zadesky has been with Apple for 16 years; when he will be leaving isn’t known.

The information comes from the Wall Street Journal, which reports it received word from “people familiar with the matter.” According to those sources, Zadesky has announced after two years of leading the car project that he is leaving Apple. He’s still said to be with the company right now, but when he is leaving isn’t known.

Asus ZenFone 3 Z010DD surfaces in GFX Bench results

Asus ZenFone fans have something to get excited about with some details of an unreleased new version of the ZenFone making the rounds today. A new ZenFone 3 configuration has turned up after testing via GFX Bench called the Z010DD. The benchmarks gave up some details on the hardware the phone has inside.

The smartphone runs Android 6.0 out of the box and has a 5.9-inch 1280 x 720 resolution screen. That low res screen makes this sound like it may be a mid-range ZenFone 3. The ZenFone 2 has a 5.5-inch full HD screen so it isn’t like that this particular ZenFone 3 is the high-end device with lesser resolution than the previous model.

First and only Aston Martin DB10 to be auctioned 18th February

If you are familiar with the Aston Martin DB10 sports car, then you are either one or both of two things: a car aficionado and/or a James Bond fan. Ever since the now iconic DB5, Aston Martin has been designing cars for the James Bond film empire. The DB10, however, has the distinction of being the only one to be made exclusively for a film. Now, one of only 10 models in existence will be going under the gavel for bidding next month, marking the first time a private individual will have the prestige of owning a piece of history, a piece of luxury, and a piece of Hollywood.
