ASUS VivoBook X407 and X507 Hands On, Initial Impressions: Premium Design For A Good Price

Let’s check out ASUS’ new budget-oriented laptops!

VivoBook X407

Aside from unveiling its ASUS 360 exhibit, ASUS took the opportunity to launch two new laptops under the VivoBook line. Meant to be affordable, the X407 and X507 have premium looks and decent looks, making them a tempting deal especially for those looking for a new laptop. Here’s our quick look at the two laptops:

*Do note that the X507 on display is a dummy unit, meaning some design changes may happen with the final model.

The X407 has a sleek silver keyboard top together with black colored keys. The upper portion has a textured aluminum finish, while the trackpad area has a brushed aluminum finish.The keyboard is slightly lower than the palm rest, making it comfortable for long typing sessions.

For the trackpad, you have a one-piece design, with a small marker in the middle designating as the border between the left and right buttons.

For the inputs, you have a combo headphone jack, USB 3.0, HDMI, MicroSD card slot, fan vent, and power supply on the left side.

On the right side, you have an additional USB 3.0 port, indicator lights for HDD read and battery, and a Kensington lock.

The hinges on the X407 are solidly built but are designed for you to open the laptop using two hands.

For the display, you have a 14-inch HD LED display with a 1333×768 resolution with NanoEdge bezels. You can find the webcam on top of the display.

The lid on the X407 is made of brushed aluminum, giving you a premium feel.

Aside from size, the X507 has a few design differences. For one, it has a full-size keyboard with a numeric keypad, along with a darker silver aluminum finish on the keyboard top.

As for ports, the X507 gets a total of 3 USB ports, two being on the left, and one on the right:

For the display, you get a 15.6-inch HD display with a wide viewing angle and NanoEdge side bezels.

Like the X407, you get a brushed aluminum finish on the top cover of the X507.

Configuration options for both the X407 and X507 include up to 16GB RAM, HDD+SSD combo, and up to a 7th-generation Intel i7 Processor.
